Thanks for the tips! I am just waiting for my video to come back from the editor and can't wait to see how I blew it! :)
Thanks for your thoughts everyone. I'll be taking them back to my group.
Hi Robert! What a treat to hear from you - I get your ezine and have for years.
Here's the deal, it's a group of parent educators - there are 5 businesses. There is no "go to" resource for quality parent ed in the Puget Sound area and that's what we want to be.
We're clear that we don't want to be a non-profit, at least not a first.
The idea is that parents will go to our site/contact us when they are looking for parent education. We all have different specialties and easily and confidently refer to one another.
We also offer a "package" deal to businesses and organizations who provide parent ed. As an example, Starbucks could hire us to come in and do a series of monthly parent ed classes for their partners. We'd each take a month and teach about a differnt topic.
Eventually, we think we want to be a referal based network. Meaning, parent educators can pay an annual fee to be a part of our group, however, they have to be referred in by a trustworthy reference. Not just anyone can join.
So, it's a network of parent educators in the puget sound area. We'll be the place parents to to find quality parent ed, all in one spot.
The idea is to form a cooperative and genearate more biz, but we have a higher calling as well - to be a central spot for parents to find quality parent educators.
Thanks!!
I am pretty clear that we need to be very "by the book" about this - more than I have with my own solo biz. The more we spell out, the less confusion there will be, no doubt!
I'll check with my girls and get back to you Valerie about the consult! Thanks for offering.
Any thoughts about co-op or collective style businesses?!
Thanks - I like the idea of the bonus discount.
Hi Hannah! Mosaic Coffeehouse has a gallery. Amy
Thanks for your comments - I think I am going to hold off on doing this - as cool as it is, it doesn't make $$ sense for me right now. Perhaps in a year!
Hi! I too, was stumped by this - and then when I started calling around, it just got worse. I thought I was being sold at every turn.
Then I found Victoria Hardy, credit card processor of my dreams. Victoria L. Hardy 206-715-5342 VLHARDY@Verizon.net
She explained everything to me in a way I could understand. The machine was free (don't know if that's always the case) and easy to use.
I had about $1000 worth of stuff charged in June and paid $60.
I hope this helps!
This sounds like a fun and different way to capture attention - the ususal stuff I do is getting boring...
Ravenna is a great location!
Hi! Gina Diamond can most likely help you - she's an eco-coach and this is exactly what she does! You can just look her up on Biznik.
She's great! Hope this helps.

I'm there a lot, actually. They are my main event space. And I know that Biznik folks do events there but don't make dontations for the use of the room, which I happen to think is bad form. And possibly bad Karma.
However, thanks for the idea of hosting an event there - I'll do a Biznik thing this summer.
Hey! This is great - I particularly like the coaching about how to get my fans to refer to me in a way that might actually end up with some action! Thanks!
This is a really smart solution to yet another thing on my list. I have a great stack of cards gathering dust...now I can put it to work! Amy
I just say what I do - parent educator - and it usually comes up that I own my own company as conversation progresses. I'm not going to sell anything to anyone if I say I'm the owner of my company. Yawn. All anyone wants to know is what I can do for them - right?!
Hi! I want to play too! This is a great idea - and I am sure my stuff could use an update. I'm interested in "up-selling" without bashing people over their heads with it. And as for my talents...I'm good at putting people at ease and managing the crowd.
Thanks Jesse!
Hi - contact the Seattle School District's Nutrition Advisory Commitee - they may have some ideas for you (and they may run screaming). Several schools have Nutrition Advisory Committees - Sacajawea, Viewridge, Laurelhurst are the only ones I can think of...
I am a big Mosaic fan! I host all my events there these days. They have great pastries and good coffee and I really like that I can pay them what I believe is fair when it comes to room rental - and for me that's $20 an hour. Check it out! Amy
Hi! I am so excited to see your post! Don't know how I can be involved - perhaps you could do a feature each month on Mama owned businesses - we do so many different and crazy things! I'd love to contribute to "Healthy Momma" - but what I do is parent ed, so perhaps not exactly right for what you are after...

PS Northwest Enterprising Moms is a yahoo group you should check out!
Mosaic Coffeehouse in Wallingford (behind Dick's on 45th) has a meeting space that can probably handle about 20 - and they are donation based - so you pay what you want. I will warn you that they are part of the Church of the Nazarine (they're in the basement) but I checked them out and they are not evengelizing and won't bug anyone about churchy stuff unless asked. They are great people offering up a space to build community.
