  • Scotch Whisky Tasting @ LIberty

I am happy to announce, that on Thursday, January 31st, Liberty will be hosting a Scotch Whisky tasting, featuring Dewar's whiskey.

Luckily for us, the main Dewar's whisky 'ambassador' will be in town to lead this tasting, and he will talk to us about the 30+ blends of Scotch whisky that goes into Dewar's, and will have tastes available to us of the many whiskies that go into their blend.

The tasting is at 7:30, and will come with one roll of sushi of your choice.

Seating is limited, so if you'd like to come by, please do let us know so that we can save you the seat.

    See y'all here?

  • Wharehose space, anyone?

    Hey there, Y'all.

I just wanted to chime in here to let you all know that if anyone needs 5K sq/ft warehouse space located on Capitol Hill, I have the space available for you or for someone that you know.

The Good News: The space has 14 foot ceilings, is very centrally located, and is a sound, secure building.

The Bad News: The space has no present plumbing (but easily accessible for installation) and has only a four year lease.

I have a commercial property management company renting out this space, but if someone from Biznik needed it, I would rent it out for $1 per sq/ft., with the rent increasing through the fourth year (as per the master lease).

If you happen to know anyone that would like to take advantage of this space, please feel free to have them get in touch with me.

  • Currency/Savings Investement Group?

    Hello, All.

So, since our currency is not doing so well and the prognosis is not exactly rosy, I am interested in seeing if anyone out there would like to start a group looking into alternative methods of keeping any savings instead of the through US stocks / bank savings accounts.

Anyone want to discuss saving in Euros? Maybe gold? Something else?

Does this sound interesting to anyone?

If so, let me know, and we can meet at Liberty and have some drinks and sushi and see what we can do to hedge against any problems in our future.

  • Liberty has a Happy Hour event again!

When Liberty first opened, we had a whole bunch of fun Happy Hour events, and as we have all enjoyed watching Biznik grow, we'd like to let you that Sierra is hosting an event here on Thursday, November 8, from 5:30 PM to 10:45 PM.

    http://biznik.com/events/2007/11/8/classic-biznik-happy-hour-at-the-liberty

It'll be good to see many of you old-timey Biznikers, and meet many of the new members who have joined in the last few months.

In case you are not familiar with Liberty, Liberty is a classic cocktail bar that serves sushi every day from 4pm until 2am. We make scratch cocktails, have 30 bourbons, 20-some rums, and more gins and tequilas than probably you've seen anywhere else.

So, stop on in, sign up for the event - and know that every Biznik member gets Happy Hour prices all the time.

    See y'all soon.

  • Best Credit Card Processor?

Well. Here's an issue close to many of our hearts.

Which credit card processor is the best one? And, for that matter, what makes one 'best'?

The obvious answer is the fees that they charge us for each card taken, and the fees for simply having the service.

I currently use Heartland, a service that I am neither here nor there on. Initially, I was a fan of Heartland, and may have suggested it to some of you. But, lately I have not been so appreciative of their service.

One issue is that Heartland makes those with contracts join the Washington Restaurant Association, which is a conservative lobbying group - which as far as I know does little to help the small businessperson, and gives money to the Republicans, which.....well, this is a fact that I'm not such a fan.

So, where does that leave us?

If you like your credit card processor and would like to give them a shout-out, please let us know what the story is.

And, for that matter, why does Biznik not have a group rate that we can take advantage? Or, does it?

    Thanks,

    Andrew

  • Ventilation / Ductwork Professionals?

Hey, does anyone have a reference for a ventilation / ductwork contractor?

I have a large space that I need to get some quotes on, and I'll be talking to a lot of people, but I don't think that there's a better place to start this process than Biznik, so if anyone has an references, please feel free to pass on to them my info.

    Thanks in advance.

I'm going to post an e'mail here because I'd rather not have my phone number available on Google, so please have them e'mail me if they'd like to get in contact.

  • Blind Vodka Taste Test

So, I wanted to invite any of you folks here in Seattle to a blind Vodka taste test that we'll be having here at Liberty.

What kind of event is it?

Well, we'll be testing six vodkas and see which vogka is best behind all the press and marketing. So, if you come by, you'll get six, half-ounce shots to taste, and you'll get to pick which of those you like the best, and we'll then announce the winner.

This event will cost around $15, and it comes with a sushi roll of your choice.

Sound interesting? We'll be doing it on either Thursday, Friday or Saturday. Send me an e'mail and let me know which day sounds good to you.

    See you there?

  • Who are the trustworthy tradesmen and suppliers in Seattle?

So, who do you work with?

I've been working on a list of trustworthy tradesmen (electricians, plumbers, printers) and service suppliers (office products...), so if anyone has any companies that they work with that they feel are trustworthy and who may not already be part of Biznik, feel free to post them here and we can start a list.

  • Espresso Needs? Don't use Creative Concepts.

This is just my opinion, and everything that I write here is based upon my view of my experience with this company.

If you or your company are ever in need of an espresso machine, espresso services or espresso machine repair, I'd think twice about using Creative Concepts located in Edmonds, WA.

These guys sold me an espresso machine a few months ago, and I've used it twice since then. Now that I have to really use it, it seems that one important part of the machine does not work, and since they sold it to me 'as-is', they won't stand by their sale of this machine to me.

As business owners, we all just have our product or our service and the integrity that we have as businesspeople. It's difficult enough to succeed in business - and working with people that take advantage of their situation does not at all make our lives easier.

Which leads me to my next post:

Who are the trustworthy tradesmen and suppliers in Seattle?

I'll start a thread on this topic.

  • Thank you, Biznikers!

    Hey, Y'all.

I just wanted to thank all of you that made it to this past week's Biznik par-tay at Liberty.

Even though this place was more hot than is possibly reasonable, the staff and I had a great time with you guys hanging out here, and I just wanted to say thanks and to thank Lara and Dan for putting together this great resource for all of us.

I hope that all of you are getting as much as you like out of Biznik, and if I can help any of you with your biz at all in any way, please let me know.

Have a good weekend, and we'll see you next time you stop by Liberty.
