I'm about to start marketing my new website [forum]: http://BlankMyBlank.com
and I invite you [Biznik members] to be the first of members to this new community!
You're thinking ""Great," another forum... " ?
Well, this forum is going to be different!
What do you and I hate about the internet? Spam, right?
There are more spammers than there are customers... everyone wants to sell something right? Well, I want to harness the "power of spammers" and covert that power into something that will be of use to you and me. I'm not encouraging spamming but instead providing a more effective alternative that will make everyone happy.
What am I talking about? How? Well checkout the scenarios below:
You have a legitimate product or service that you are trying to sell. You have a great website [blog, whatever] and the only thing that you are missing is visibility. No one [or not enough people] knows about you/your product/service and you can use a little help in the "word of mouth," social networking, social bookmarking, or whatever other area.
Let say I have the same problem. We can be of use to each other. I-help-you-and-you-help-me, scratch my back, etc.
The math:
- If your site is dug [digg] enough times, you will receive at least 3 months worth of website traffic by hundreds of thousands of people. Those people would be visitors that have read the title and short summary about your ____.
- If your site is "Thumbs Up - Stumbled Upon," the first few thumbs up will bring you about 300 visitors for a week. That number will grow with each thumbs ups. Those visitors would be people that have selected specific keywords of interest. If your site is tagged under "cars" people that like cars will discover your site.
You get the idea...
So, you and I are only two people... One digg, one thumbs up, one 5 star vote on your youtube video, and one blog or newsletter subscription isn't going to do much. This is where a community of people in a similar situation can help. =] You can also mix and match: You might want to get your site on the front page of digg and I might need 5 star ratings for my youtube video.
Can such a service be abused?
Yes, but it won't end well for the abuser. First of all, you choose who you want to help/trade. Second, just like a site can be dug it can also be buried. Where there is a thumbs up... there is also a thumbs down.
You can trade almost anything that comes to mind, errr... web links, web ads, tattoos [probably not a good idea], etc.
