David - I'm truly sorry I was not able to attend. I was stuck in traffice in Redmond at 11:45 and realized the situation was hopeless. I hope I can make a future event of yours. It sounds like fun. Ann

Darla, Allen, Weihua, and Jessie - Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm delighted that the workshop was useful for you. I hope we meet again at other BizNik events. Ann
Beth - Thank you for your question. Yes, I do plan to offer it again. I do not have it scheduled yet. Stay tuned! Ann
Wondering whether to attend this event? When I delivered this same workshop last week in Bellevue, the attendees gave it rave reviews. Check my profile or the Events list for past events (Apr. 14) and read their comments. If you provide personalized services to clients or patienst, this is the workshop for you! Ann
Thanks, Colleen! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Ann
Elsie and Nancy - Thank you so much for your kind words. It's gratifying to know what you got so much from this short workshop. Ann
Megan, it was good to meet you today at the workshop. How true it is that we often think we know what the client wants or should want. I takes a lot of humility to listen closely and refrain from being too helpful! Ann
Allen - I like your comment, "it's not what we say, it's what they hear." That's so true! See you on the 30th! Ann
Hsuan-Hua - Layers upon layers. If the Golden Rule is a meta-rule, then the result is, in effect, to say, "ignore this rule when the rules requires that it be ignored." If brief moments of clarity, I'm able to wrap my brain around that idea. then it flits away! Best regards,
Sonia - Thanks for your comment. The Platimun Rule is a great re-framing. It's a dilemma - we want to help the other person. Our motives are the best. And yet, it's so difficult to know what the other person wants. I think that's the dilemma Cheryl is referring to as well. Ann
Jim -
Thanks for pointing out the distinction between a statement reflecting values and a statement reflecting behavior. I see that you help employers find the right skill sets for their jobs. I can see why that distinction is top-of-mind for you.
Best regards,
Ann
Page - Its' great to hear from you. You would be a great addition to the group, so I hope you can attend. I see you are leading a bike ride this month with Cascade. Keep on biking! Ann
Ian - Thanks for the book reference. I'll check it out. Ann
Colleen - Thanks for your kind words. I hope you are able to attend. It would be great to have a broad mix of professions represented. We'll all learn from each other! Ann
Kate -
The question you pose is a really important one and I've been grappling with it myself as I advise my clients on how to communicate with their clients.
You may have technical expertise in your speciality (let's say, marketing), and in addition to that, you can help your client think through broader issues (such as how a marketing strategy needs to change in today;s economy). That doesn't mean you need expertise in those other areas, and it doens't mean you are giving advice in those areas.
A well-placed question is much more important than having the answer.
Ann
Ian - Great insights. Thanks for the article. I've found that professionals often focus more on what they know than on what the client needs. Your article is an excellent reminder of the importance of listening.
Miriam and Cassandra -
The event yesterday was awesome! I got a lot out of it personally, and I will be able to incorporate some of what I learned into my coaching practice.

The UW has a facility called the Center for Horticultural Studies (or something like that). It has several nice meeting rooms and delightful outdoor spaces for getting fresh air between sessions.
The Bellevue Library has a large meeting room that I believe is free if your meeting is open to the public.
Some other places to check: Mercer Island Community Center, Beaver Lake Lodge (City of Sammamish), Tibbets Manor (Issaquah).
Good luck!
Hi Al and Valerie- I've gotten in touch with both of you. I'm just getting the hang of how Biznik works, so communicating in the future won't be so clunky! If anyone else is interested in talking about how to systematize a small business or professional practice, I would be happy to talk with you! Contact me at Ann@AnnKruse.com. Ann
Hi Al -
I completely systematized my law practice a number of years ago. I can understand your sense of being overwhelmed! I'm curious about what being overwhelmed feels like for you. That may be a key to tapping into the energy that will get you where you want to go.
If you would like to talk about this by phone, feel free to send me an email at annkruse@earthlink.net and we'll figure out a time to talk.
BTW, I'm a brand new Biznik member and yours is the first question that caught my eye. And it was Hsuan-Hua (who also responded to your question) who invited me to join!
