  • Alas I must cancel...can't convince that creative professional husband of mine that his inaugural visit to the group should be on his birthday - hope to see you all next month!

  • Kate -

Can't make this one on Monday ;-( but hope to attend a future workshop. Great seeing you yesterday. You're the hostess with the mostest!

Patricia is right - Cancer Lifeline is great. You might also look into Gilda's Club.

  • Hi Bryan,

I've been meaning to get in touch since our brief conversation at NWEN some months ago - how wonderful to find you on Biznik and get a chance to attend your seminar! I'm looking forward to it.

  • Elke,

Thank you so much for a lovely day! Great food, amazing views, friendly small business owners, interesting company. Your skills as a facilitator were much appreciated.

With all the fancy cameras in evidence yesterday it seems funny that I'm the first to upload my little phone shots but...here's a couple!

  • Howard, et al - I apologize! I flaked out! I'm sure the event was wonderful, per usual. I'm afraid my day just got away from me...in part preparing for a book signing event tomorrow evening and Saturday at the Olympia Timberland Library. Any Olympia biknikers? Come say hi! Hope to see my fellow roundtablers next month.

  • This is indeed a fascinating topic. I'll admit it...I'm a social networking junkie/whore (why is it that the terms that seem most relevant here are pejorative?) I've lost count of how many I'm on and I've been doing it since the 'net was just a twinkle in Al Gore's eye. My criteria for accepting invitations/add requests/etc vary widely but relate specifically to the reasons I'm a part of that particular community. I wear many hats in my roles on various social networks - sometimes I am acting on behalf of an employer or client...other times it relates to a particular professional or personal interest of mine...

I got so excited about this that I continued this as a blog post - Social Networking: Playing Nice with Your Peeps http://annwendell.wordpress.com/2009/03/25/social-networking-playing-nice-with-your-peeps/

Maybe I'll even get my act together to turn it into a Biznik article.

  • Hi Donna,

Great to see you here on Biznik! I hope you do feel welcome in the community.

Jim - I have to admit to feeling somewhat uncomfortable in reading your remarks. You talk about "our" relationship with Christianity without mentioning just who that encompasses, so it reads as if you are talking about the Biznik community in general. And then you define God as Jesus...which, as I'm sure you're well aware, is not a universally held concept. I just think, especially when we're welcoming someone in a forum such as this, that we all need to take care that our remarks can be interpreted as inclusive of a diversity of views.

  • As always, Annika is the Hostess with the Mostess. An ace at moderation, group facilitation looks deceptively easy in her hands. And when you lay your seething mass of writing challenges and anxieties on the table she uses her razor insight to slice and dice it into a neat doable package. Her events are always filled with both pleasure and productivity.

  • Looks way fun...count me in for next time. Unfortunately I can't make this one...will be at the annual auction for the Swedish Cultural Center (but I will be festively attired in vintage cruise ship finery so I'll be with you all in spirit.) One of the auction items is a Tea for Ten - a Vintage Frederick & Nelson Tearoom Experience that my friend Julie and I are donating - we'll be looking for models for the vintage fashion show if anyone is interested!

  • Thanks Terra!

Visit my website www.annwendellbooks.com (or access my blog on my Biznik profile) to check out some of Terra's F&N memories and to add your own. I just spoke with Adam at the Chateau at Bothell Landing and the Coconut Cake is in the house! Running off to choose my vintage F&N hat now.

Terra - what time is your send off open house tomorrow?

  • Ann - It would be wonderful to meet your aunt...what wonderful stories she must have. I hope you are both able to attend. Has she gone to the F&N RFQ (Retired, Fired, Quit) Club Luncheons? I was taken to the Holiday one by Lamont McDonald (the inventor of the Frango mint machine) and it was great. Please visit my website www.annwendellbooks.com for other upcoming events and check out my blog. There I'm posting memories and photos that people send in so if your family has any they'd like to share that would be terrific!

  • Have to cancel for this month's roundtable - hope someone else can jump right in. I'm going to be signing my new book Images of America: Frederick & Nelson at an F&N Reminiscence Tea at Chateau Retirement Community! Happy Holidays to all if I don't see you at the big Biznik party tonight!!

  • Ah if only I'd been sitting at my computer instead of at YANE (Yet Another Networking Event) this morning...so alas even though I heard from Corbet, Mike, and Anne (both of which had something come up where they were unable to attend) it's too short of notice for me today - I do have to actually attempt to get some work done this week! ;-) Thanks everyone for letting me know there was an opening. I'll keep an eye open for next time.

Hope you do this one again. Being a librarian you'd think I'd have this down but...as I wrote on my Cataloging class final - "Since these mysteries are beyond us...let's pretend we're organizing them!"

  • Colleen -

Great to meet you in person last night at Purple! Loved this article (and sending a copy to my web designer). Amazing example of showcasing your authentic voice by getting in touch with your "inner client/customer." And how gracious of you to show the rest of us how to do it!

Reminded me of one of the first things I ever read by Chris Locke (pre Cluetrain Manifesto) -

"Organizations that believe in what they’re doing - and are fearless enough to project that perspective online - could win unimagined loyalty. But corporations can’t credibly communicate what they don’t comprehend. Passion, commitment, engagement, humanity - qualities highly valued in this medium - are simply missing from most commercial Web sites. The audience is listening - for a heartbeat. Companies that haven’t got one are about to flatline in the Web marketplace."

    Viva la conversation!!
