THANKS! I'm looking forward to it.
John - any chance I can squeeze in? I think I have a pretty good understanding of copyright concerns, but would welcome the opportunity to learn more! Beth
I've described Biznik to my friends as a "solo-preneur support network" - because it seems like this group is more about supporting each other than networking to generate new business. The support also comes in the form of learning opportunities, free advice, etc.
valerie - how exciting! Can you add me to the evite? I hope i can make it, my hubby is recovering from surgery so he may not be able to come, but I would love to come give you a congratulatory hug! cheers! Beth bethyockeyjones@gmail.com
Hey, if anyone wants to talk with me about publishing (on-demand vs. ebook vs. offset etc) and how to make that decision, please hit me up. I've successfully sold books, but then started my own publishing company to help other authors get their books DONE and out there. cheers, beth
I like Yousendit too. Also - if you are transferring many files between people, I really recommend foldershare.com. it's super easy to set up a VPN, and I've never had any problems with it. It's free, too!
I'll try to stop by for a bit...
Melissa - I'd find a good CPA to talk to. I do all my own quarterly returns, but then give her the end-of-year stuff, and have her prepare my businesses' tax returns as well as my personal one. If you find someone to talk to first, you can explain your situation, and make sure that what you are doing quarterly will be a sufficient basis for her to use for your filing at the end of the year. Most CPAs who I've known would gladly give you an hour of free advice in return for a commitment of future business.
wish I could make it- I just played my first Par 3 this weekend, and I am hooked... Next time?
your illustration is SO Charming!
If any of your clients need to talk about publishing options, please feel free to pass on my info :) cheers from Seattle!
David - I haven't fleshed out the Mr. Tibs idea... My husband & I were tossing around restaurant concepts and got stuck in the North-African modality. His fave was Wat Wat, mine was Mr. Tibbs. (as in Mr. Pibb). Cause if you brought ethiopian food to the masses, it would be really funny to have chicken mr. tibbs, beef mr. tibbs, etc.
(For those who don't get the joke, check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethiopian_cuisine or any local ethio restaurant.)
Thanks, Elizabeth!
I want somebody to make a national chain of Ethiopian restaurants called Mr. Tibs.
I love your new picture, Elizabeth!
I am gonna be there.
I like your promotion, Amy! Have you had much success with it?
A big thing that I get annoyed with, as a writer, is people writing emails in wickedly inauthentic voices. An email should be conversational in tone. Of course, there're always gonna be exceptions, but, really. If you are just saying "hi, we met last night at a networking event," then for godssakes, say THAT. Don't "allow me to introduce myself" or "follow up on our conversation."
Just a nit I wanted to pick on the same subject...
I have a few other suggestions, Clarice.
I find that reading the words printed on paper help me to focus my eyes more than reading on screen.
When I do my first pass of editing, I add comments places where I feel the style could use more work, rather than trying to fix it right then and there. I go back and review the comments when I have a good headspace for that type of rewriting.
When I am doing a final edit of on-screen text, I like to change the font and point size to a different one than I've been looking at in the creative process. I find that the visual shift allows me to recognize errors more easily.
Thanks for the timely article - I've been researching starting a Mastermind Group, and this has some great tips!
So sad to have to cancel. But I hope someone else snatches up my space!
Thanks for all your feedback to this point! It is really helpful to me to hear all these DIFFERENT problems, many of which have some common threads. I'll try to weave a reasonable tapestry out of them.
It doesn't seem reasonable that you're not expected to use your home office for things that anyone at a corporate job would do at their office... (Pay bills, check personal emails, etc.) I have been told that the IRS wouldn't check for that.
thanks for the site suggestions, Evan.
Thanks!!! I'll see you next Wednesday.
I second your interest, Michael. I haven't found any good resources on the web, but in briefly talking to my accountant (Wendy at Jacobson Jarvis), it sounded like all members of the LLC would need to be members of each of the cells / series.
I'm gonna make it this time :)
