Beverly Stayart's work filing complaints and motions and aiding in hearings and trial proceedings has contributed to Stayart Law Offices' many successful cases. While accumulating her many professional achievements, Beverly Stayart has remained passionate about causes like St. Joseph's Indian School, which provides educational opportunities for Lakota children, and the Humane Society of the United States. In 2007, World Farm Animals Day (WFAD) honored Beverly Stayart with an award recognizing her contribution to the 25th annual observance of World Farm Animals Day. She was given this award for speaking out on behalf of the 50 billion animals suffering in the world's factory farms and slaughterhouses. WFAD has been exposing factory farm and slaughterhouse atrocities since 1983. In 2009, the Humane Society of the United States honored Beverly Stayart with a Special Recognition Award for helping to lead the campaign to preserve the baby seal population in Eastern Canada by soliciting restaurant, company and consumer support of the international commercial boycott of Canadian seafood, organizing demonstrations, spearheading letter writing and e-mail campaigns, and coordinating field trips to garner public support. The bearer of a degree in English Literature from the University of Iowa, Beverly Stayart is particularly drawn to the work of American poets Edna St. Vincent Millay, Robert Frost, and Sara Teasdale, and English writers William Blake and Matthew Arnold. In her spare time, Beverly Stayart enjoys genealogical research. Beverly Stayart can trace her ancestry to early colonial America, where her fourth great-grandparents, Thomas and Jane (Jefferson) Stephens, settled in Maryland. Their son, Emmor Jefferson Stephens, married Elizabeth Bowles. James Bowles Stephens, the son of Emmor and Elizabeth Stephens, founded East Portland, Oregon, which later merged with West Portland. He established the first ferry service across the Willamette River in Portland, which he operated for 17 years. The James Bowles Stephens House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A major roadway and a school in Portland were named in his honor.
