  • How long does this typically go? I can't make it right at 6:30pm I coach Little League until 6:45 out in Maple Valley.

  • Thanks Anna, it was great meeting you and I enjoyed the event. For some reason I'm not listed as attending though... :)

I'll be working on my inflection and other things with my speech.

    Thanks again!

  • Old topic, but I wanted to add that I'm on MySpace and Facebook. I think it obviously depends on who your target market is.

As a photographer I'm looking to get my name out with high school students and brides and grooms to be. In my case MySpace and Facebook work well for both.

  • I'm going to have to miss this again. I'm hacking and sneezing so much with a nasty cold right now, I wouldn't be very popular to shake hands with! I hope everyone has a great night.

  • Thanks for putting it together Justin! I enjoyed meeting everyone that I could. I missed a few of you and hope to get to know you in the future. I think this is going to become a fun group of people to associate with.

I'm wondering if this was the first Biznik event to come with a limo ride? I hope Kenneth signs up for Biznik, he had quite the rig!

  • It's interesting to hear the other professions that this happens with. I'm sure it's common in any service.

I also completely agree that it's not worth worrying about and moving on if people don't see the value we provide with our business. However, I'm trying to work on my phone skills and how I talk in person to try and convey more insight to the value my business can bring to them by working with me. I think it's a worth wile effort to try and educate someone if they seem like they will listen. If they totally don't get it that's fine I'll move along.

The point that some things only have to be good enough is also a very valid point. We all do some things ourselves out of necessity that could be better done by someone else if money was no issue. I'm doing a lot of things myself now, that I hope to hire out in the next year or two.

What got me going on this was a specific case of somebody marketing themselves by using the "why pay so-and-so when you can do this yourself because it's easy." line of thinking. It's a free world and people do what they need to do, but marketing like that isn't completely true and will obviously put others off.

The carpet cleaning example. I can see someone marketing do it your self carpet cleaning. If I were a carpet cleaner and I saw the do it your self ads and products I'd be fine and understand that's just part of the market and it has it's target market and purpose. However if I saw marketing that said "why hire a carpet cleaner when this bottle will do the same thing..." type of approach I'd be a little miffed.

  • I think it's just like any type of writing. The headline will draw people in, and the first part of what you write (header) will keep them interested or make them leave.

So.... when do we get the free beer? :)

  • I was looking at the Office 2007 site and it sparked my interest enough to download the trial version. Outlook 2007 is so different from 2002 it's going to take me a bit to get used to. It's crashed three times the first day, but today has been stable.

I downloaded the free version of syncmycal to look at and see what it does. But then I saw that Plaxo will not only sync with Outlook it will sync with multiple calenders including Google. How cool is that? Also Plaxo will sync my laptop and home computer. So syncmycal is out.

  • I guess I'll hold of on Outlook 2007 for a while. I hope MS can smooth out the Vista bugs soon.

HighRise and BaseCamp both look very nice for groups of people working together. It's basically just me, in my business so it looks like those apps may be better suited for groups of people working together?

  • Thanks everyone. I appreciate the tips. I'll check them out. Slipstick has a lot of options. I'm using Outlook 2002, any feedback on updating to 2007 is worth while? I've felt like my MS office does all I need it to do so I haven't felt the need to update in years.

Justin I agree, I can't wait to see what they come up with. Google has brought some very cool things onto the world so far!

  • Madeline,

I like the way that the Quickbooks solution works the fees into the books automatically. The reason I didn't look into the service further was that when I was looking into them a couple years ago I thought they had a $20 month service charge on top of the processing fees. Is this still the case or have they come down in price?

I'll mention this thread to him.

  • I'm paying $5 per month, and the transaction rate ranges from 1.79% to 3% depending on the card and how I run it. Typical visa/master card swiped through my terminal, with the zip code entered, and then confirmed with-in 24 hours receives the lowest 1.79% rate. I also have a charge per transaction but it's not much.

Corporate cards and reward cards have a higher rate, and cards that are not swiped through the machine or confirmed with zip codes or confirmed with-in 24 hours are charged at the highest rate.

  • I have no idea what your budget is but a fabulous gift to me would be something like an i-pod. If you have made a multi-media presentation to hype up the group you could pre-load it on the i-pods.

The i-pod touch is VERY cool and would play the program with pizazz. Have the backs engraved for the occasion. If budgets are lower the i-pod nano had video too. Even lower you could do the shuffle with something motivational pre-loaded on them!

Sorry if it's too far off topic, but I'd think that was a pretty cool gift.

  • The address I listed is actually correct, but being out here in the boonies there's about 10 different possible ways to have a 225th.

The funny thing is when you type in

23745 225th Way SE, Suite 205, Maple Valley, WA into Google, the correct map comes up.

I'm guessing that part of the problem is that the dates of the map and satellite information is older than the completion date of my office building.

The map on my profile points to 225th Street which is in some housing development.

I think for now it would be better for me to have the incorrect map and the correct address on my profile for mail and if anyone wants to map it. I put a note on my profile that the map is not correct.

I'll email Google now and see what they say.
