What Brianna does

We are publishing a series of bilingual books for girls (the We Are Girls series) the first book is We Are Girls Who Love to Run (Somos Chicas y Nosotras Nos Encanta Correr), an inspirational book for girls of all ages that promotes healthy relationships, physical activity and girlhood. We Are Girls Who Love to Run was recently honored with a 2008 Moonbeam Children's Book Award bronze medal in the Body-Mind-Spirit category. Signed copies of the book are available through our website. The book is available on Amazon, at local specialty running stores or by request at virtually any bookstore.

As an author, I visit school groups and clubs. I offer interactive programs for groups of all ages - elementary school through adult about goal-setting, finding a healthy life balance, and the book publishing process. A menu of my author visit topics is available on the "Programs" page of the Balanced Steps website.

My business partner, Sheila Schencke, and I also provide hands-on/minds-on science and math cross-curricular workshops for elementary school teachers and non-book-related goal setting workshops for students. Sheila is an award-winning administrator and master teacher with teaching experience ranging from kindergarten through graduate school.

You can follow my blog Girl Who Loves to Run at: www.balancedsteps.blogspot.com. I discuss life-balance (home life, work, fitness, etc.), healthy choices, family and running. I recently added book reviews, focusing primarily on books from independent or small presses (children's books & fitness titles). You can also find me blogging at Bookieboo.com, which is a fitness and parenting related site for women.

What does Brianna need?

Help with organization and optimizing time I do have for book promotion. Press releases overwhelm me!

I'm also trying to get my book picked up by more retailers or have a company use my book with THEIR promotion work.

Education

I have a BA in Art/Art History from The University of Georgia and a Master's of Art in Teaching from Queens University of Charlotte in NC.

Experience

I was a classroom teacher for 3 years, also did some work with an after school program and summer camps when I lived in Charlotte, NC.

Lately I've been writing articles for the Snoqualmie Valley newspaper, The River Current News (www.rivercurrentnews.com), which I had the grand opportunity of naming!

I was a founding co-president for the social club Mothers of Duvall (MOD) which has boasted 80-100 members (all mothers, as the name implies) in our small community. MOD offers playgroups, social networking, community service opportunities, and friendships.

I'm also working with local school representatives to possibly bring the GoGirlGo! program to the Snoqualmie Valley (www.getagirlgoing.org).
