Leif,
Your ideas are just too dammed good! The problem with the first part of your survey is that I rated all of the event ideas with 5...which doesn't really help you with your decision making process.

I'm down with that...
I'm going to "try" and make this, somehow figuring out how to wedge it in between something else I am scheduled to do. Is there a capacity limit on this gig you're holding Nancy? I'm inclined to not rsvp in deference to others, but there doesn't seem to be a rsvp limit.
Such a great event idea Nancy!
Oops. Had to cancel due to schedule conflict.
Dan/John,
I love the way you can see someones basic info just by dragging your mouse over the photo. It's the little things that make it so you don't have to click around that really matter. Well done!
Becky,
I think the hallmark of your business is that it takes the hassle out of planning. So what about: "Hassle free weekend" or "Hassle free vacation"?
Would do, but I've got something else that day.
for pictures on the right side of: http://biznik.com/forums/new-website-discussion-and-bug-reports
"most posts in this forum" section. the right side arrow doesn't show anymore functions for the photos. it just gives me a "that's you!".
not all the events are showing up in the main frame. an example of one that's missing is the double duty biznik event. Also, i think the "change agent" one was missing too. they do seem to show up in the right hand sidebar under the "people in your network are attending" section.
oooow. it doesn't. and it looks like it's enterpreting my less than sign as html too.
auto adding in it's own greater than sign to finish off the stanza.
does this thing translate emoticons...let me try
;) <3>t, that is definitely a future feature request.

I think it has more potential for the future than anything. Right now it's just a popularity contest. Which is valuable data, and not without research merit.
I think it's a great question though.
The limitations that I see with it, in it's current incarnation, are that it's just a flat network. You can't see when that "connection" was set?, whether it has endured or strengthened over time?, and on what basis someone is a part of your network? But I suspect more features like that will come over time.
I can't see my cursor in the message box when sending someone a message. It makes it really hard to type. I'm using firfox 2.0.x on a mac. I also get funky large text from other parts of the part popping into the text window when i get to the bottom of the text window. Same as Karrie's bug I think.
So, upon further thought, I think it makes sense for this first meeting to be as much about sharing your vision for your future - and about describing you, as the you you strive to become - as it should be about goal setting. Does that notion resonate with anyone else?

The member search function is heroicly fast and incredibly swank! I was just in San Jose, virtually, and was playing with the radius pull down without entering anything into the search field. Super nice.

somethings wrong there. thought it's not reproducable. When I first clicked on his profile I get a red error message at the top saying that his url could not be found...or was not available. now it seems to work.
misty eyed... thinking about that lovely dark green color... I miss it too.
future feature: could you set it so that all the stuff that goes under "my profile" pops out on a mouseover/mouseclick, so that I can select it and go directly to things I use a lot, like say my messages and events?
future feature?: add the dark green back in and make it so that the onmouseover highlights make the upper green menu bar highlight the background to darker and change the onmouseover text color to something lighter when selected.
ff: add my skype id back in to the my profile.
compliment: It's amazing to see all the new members from other places (not seattle). It's a real testament to your great work on the web site that people from so far away feel that there is something of value in creating an account even when there aren't many people in their local area yet! Hella good job!
Comments on messages and UI:
On the welcome front page I have my picture, "hi cere!", stats, then messages/events/compliments/referals. Seems like the messages and events should just be hyperlinked and then skip having the "view messages" link at the bottom of the list. You could link out on a few of the stats as well, but I suspect that's already planned for future releases.
When it comes to RSVPing for events I really like the old method of sending me an email to my gmail account, so that I could then easily add it to my google calendar. That's still possible now, but it' s a lot more cumbersome. I would also like to just have my messages forwarded onto my gmail account rather then just sitting in the biznik account. It's much less likely that I will see incoming mail in a timely manner if it doesn't just go to my one personal account, where I check email often.
Thanks.
Gianna,
I like your photo. But I think it might be better if it showed a little more of your face. I have yet to meet you in person. Attending a biznik event anytime soon?

Hey Brian,
I think this is a great concept.
on point 1)
To me sustainability means no particular institution. The notion of sustainability, to me, lean more towards local business, local community driven by personal relationships with people, not as much with institutions. I do think that institutional relationships are necessary in some cases, but I think they tend to function in a less agile and sustainable way then larger organizations, imo.
on point 4)
I might also add that some credit could/should be given to people/groups who work to tug on the ear of larger institutions for the sake of sustainable change. I recently worked (perhaps even made a nuisance of myself) to put the notion of flywheel UPS generators in the minds of people who are planning the new facilities at work. This would be in place of the old skool, power hungry, wasteful battery based ups systems. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flywheelenergystorage I'm not sure how much a difference I actually made, but it made me feel good in the end.
...which then points to another question. How could/would you measure simple small acts of individuals? How would these kinds of things be recognized? For this, I might just form a kind of self-celebratory affinity group. Where people interested in this get together and talk about their work. Do I hear an event idea?

I keep putting myself in the place of someone NOT in Seattle and buggin' over the way I can't just toggle a setting to see what kind of activity is going on around me locally. Who's contributing to discussions nearby? Who's logged in nearby? Who's just joined biznik nearby? Is my community is somewhereville growing? Is there now enough active people logged in so that I might be successful in hosting an event? I suspect that there will be many other people in somewhereville asking themselves the same question, but no one in somewhereville can easily know the answer. So somewhereville will have a hard time growing, I suspect, because it will always feel like Seattleville.
Oh ya, did I mention, nice job on the site so far and how much I appreciate it? I totally mean it.
Hey, When i head over the San Fran, i see "meet joel mccomb", I try to click on his photo/info and then get a message saying his info is not viewable....heh? Is he related to you Dan?
congrats on getting this up and running you two!
Best of luck you two!
