  • So, I've been pondering what would be the one thing that I would want to prioritize as the most important thing to achieve for myself within the span of roughly a week....hmmm

Here's just some random ideas until I decide on something:

I feel I could stand to just have a more consistent level of health (ie, better nights sleep, happier tummy, etc). Another thing I could improve would be to be say hello to strangers walking I pass on the streets more. It bugs me about Seattle, life in the city, and my own learned behaviour, that we don't do that more. Some other thoughts are that I think I need to get better at being more disciplined and focused in achieving my financial goals over the next year. And lastly: I >really really< need to exersize more.

Why I'm not doing all of this to my own satisfaction? Well, ...not exactly sure. I think it boils down to a combination of just real life demands and constraints, a lack of focus and positive vision of what my future can hold, and just plain old bad habits? Crap. Which of these problems do I tackle first? Well, I suppose you all will have some thoughts on that right?

  • Hey Lara,

I really liked your last picture... I like this one too, but I really liked the last one. I didn't see it as sultry, though if I squint and tilt my head to the side, I could see how someone else might. I liked it because it seemed really personal and authentic.

It's so interesting to me how a picture of someone can strike a chord in people so differently.

One could argue that, depending on the nature of your business, you should just post a picture of yourself that you feel would resonate the best with the kinds of people you would want to do business with.

  • Comcast has this funky shunt system that they impose on certain areas (apparently located on a central telephone pole somewhere) for when the local area being served is using more than what has been allocated by comcast. I was told this by a comcast tech at one point, so it explains why we tend to see highly varied speed performance with comcast depending on location. Fun.

  • Ah yes, regarding SASAG... good tip. Though, clearly not helpful to you since it came from you. :)

I think the Japanese must just rofltao when they see our bandwidth limitations.

There's nothing like a dare to get this kind of thing really moving. Well done!

  • Why don't you try these folks? http://bandwidthadvisors.com/

I'm told Michelle, their consultant, is pretty helpful. This service normally just caters to businesses who need lots of data pipe, but I am sure you would at least learn what all of your residential options are with a short phone conversation.

Comcast sucks for exactly the reasons you mentioned (and probably many you didn't). I've heard even worse things about Clearwire from some coworkers...

Ultimately, if you care about running anything other than a stateless short term client app (like a web browser, etc) on the end of your ISP, you'll wind up having to look at a more robust service. There are always tricks like setting up vpn's and sending tcp keep-alives over ssh connections, but this kind of workaround just winds up being more trouble than it's worth for most real world scenarios.

  • Allright then Kelly. If no one else signs up, it's just you and me for the first session of this.

  • Very nice. It's rare to see someone who is so gifted at engaging a reader by doing things, via writing, that are so unexpected. Speaking for myself, I really hate reading and writing. It's a necessary evil, I know, but I never really liked it. I never would have read through what she wrote had she not provided the text in a way that seemed to invite me to know her personal character/style in a way that plain old text couldn't do. Pretty cool stuff.

  • Hey Folks,

So, while I think Katherine is right and that there will be no single time that will work for everyone, I would like to propose that we schedule this for early Sunday evening (July the 8th). If that proves to be bad for many people, then I'll just re-submit this event for eventing of July the 10th (tuesday).

    Thoughts?

  • Ack...

Is Tuesday night really that bad of a choice? I figured every week night is pretty much equally a bad/good choice. Perhaps I need to rethink that one. Are there nights that tend to be better for people that are interested in this kind of thing?

  • Hi Dinah,

You know, I am sad to report that I missed the accountability group session during Bizjam. From the sounds of it, it seems that what I am envisioning for the Get it Done (GID) group is very similair. I am interested in the psychological underpinnings related to habits and motivations in general. I picture wanting to examine motivational issues using more of a psychological lens, and using psychology as a tool for ultimately beating the procrastination beast into submition! :)

I want to have weekly (GID) sessions, but, for now, don't have a location for the event that comes a week after next.

I would love to know who is/was interested in this kind of thing and I would love to see the handout as well. Thanks for your interest and the tip about the accountability session that I missed!

Maybe GID should be GIG (Get it Going), it makes for a better acronym. ...hmmm something to ponder.

  • Boy... You know, in my experience things like this happen all the time. I'm sorry to hear that it's happened to you...because I know the process must really suck.

But perhaps the good new is, long term, that when other people don't support you it forces you to suport yourself more, and depending on your level of conviction in your pursuits, it will help you clarify your overall vision. Ughh, hope that's not too trite.

Feel free to just send me a sideways frown face if it is and I'll work on somthing better.

  • hey Rachel,

You got it in the followup email I was curious to know if transcription type service is valuable to Biznikers. I'm not sure about the transcription service, but I know the: dial-a-number talk-into-phone and listen-to-audio-file-from-the-web-with-the-recording-of-your-voice-message service

has existed for a while. I was curious to know how widely used a kind of service like this would be if it were available is all. I used this kind of thing it a bit on LiveJournal.com back when and thought it was a really cool feature, but I wound up using it a lot less than I expected in the end.

Was curious to know if my experience was representative of most people, or if I was just an oddball as usual. :)

  • That is really cool. Thanks for sharing that TED talk.

I was following SeaDragon - who used to be based out of Fremont, Seattle) before they got acquired and was at the time that they hadn't been to date. If Microsoft releases this technology to the public in a way that enables users to to innovate further (as Google seems to), I will be very happy!

  • It was indeed a really REALLY well run conference and afterwards party... Heroically well organized by those two. I hope they're resting it off finally.

I'm still trying to get over all the great connections made with others through this conference. I'm sort of feeling some post Bizjam depression as few conference experiences compare to Bizjam's intensity and quality.
