Beginning in August 1999, Charles Hoelzel managed the race fuel program for UNOCAL and NASCAR, delivering fuel to area race courses and inspecting and ensuring the proper quality of the gasoline on site. An effective negotiator and company field representative as well, Charles Hoelzel dealt directly with NASCAR operatives to maintain the continued profitability of UNOCAL's racing interests. In September 2000, Charles Hoelzel transferred to North Carolina to serve at Camp Lejeune and work for Petty Enterprises. From October 2000 to February 2002, Charles Hoelzel held the roles of Director of Transportation and Transport Driver for Randleman, North Carolina-based Petty Enterprises. Working on the staff of legendary NASCAR driver, Richard Petty, Charles Hoelzel brought his knowledge and expertise gained from Unocal to the #43 Team. Charles Hoelzel both drove the team transporter and served as Gas Man for the pit crew and additionally functioned in an executive capacity as Manager of the annual budget for the #43 Transportation Department. In February 2002, Charles Hoelzel found a similar position with Roush Racing/Greg Biffle, Inc. in Mooresville, North Carolina. As personal Transport Driver for Greg Biffle and Director of Transportation at Roush Racing, Charles Hoelzel was again Gas Man for the pit crew and backup driver of the transporter for Team #16 until January 2003. Charles Hoelzel has since directed a wide variety of security operations at home and abroad, serving high-ranking politicians and military commanders alike. Charles Hoelzel currently lives and works in Sana'a, Yemen.
