Charles John Wilder is known by many to be a maverick businessman, capable of turning around failing companies. While this is a true assessment of the man professionally, what many may not be aware of is John's deep commitment to giving back to communities. Through volunteerism, contributions, and his family foundation Mr. Wilder seeks to help those in need and boost the communities in which he lives and works. United Way is special to Mr. Wilder, who has been a longtime United Way Tocqueville Society member. The success of TXU's 2005 campaign saw Wilder named CEO of the Year, and as such, he helped TXU earn the Spirit of Caring Award for the 2006 campaign and the Outstanding Campaign Growth and Pacesetter of the Year Awards in 2007. By means of the John and Susan Wilder Foundation, the Dallas United Way was able to form TLC Camp for Youth, a free summer program that serves lower income children and teens. TLC Camp for Youth encourages, equips, and empowers thousands of urban youth and their mentors through its programs. Charles J. Wilder began his career in the energy business more than 25 years ago with the Royal Dutch/Shell Group. In 1998, he was brought onboard as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for Entergy, and in 2004, he joined TXU as Chief Executive Officer (CEO), later becoming Chairman of the firm. Born in Missouri, Charles Wilder graduated from Southeast Missouri State University magna cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. Mr. Wilder also received his Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Texas at Austin. Mr. Wilder currently resides in Dallas, Texas, where he enjoys reading, sports, traveling, and spending time with his wife and three children.

Entergy Corporation: 1998-2004 - Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer - Selected by board as Executive Vice President and CFO of Entergy Corporation, a $20 billion global energy company. Served as member of new executive management team charged with turning around the troubled company. Co-developed 30-day turnaround plans and presented them to the board and Wall Street; recruited and formed new financial, trading, and retail management teams; restructured portfolio and divested $6 billion in unproductive assets in less than six months. Developed and executed transactions that led to corporate-level transformation, including industry-leading $2 billion joint venture between Entergy and Koch Industries. Managed profit and loss for Entergy-Koch and Entergy Solutions, which together improved net income from negative $25 million to over $200 million annually. Brought discipline and integrity to financial results, greatly improved Entergy's reputation in the investment community, built two industry-leading businesses, and strengthened communications with key financial stakeholders.
TXU: 2004-2007 - Chairman and Chief Executive Officer - Selected as Chief Executive Officer in February 2004 and elected Chairman in May 2005 of this leading $46 billion energy company. Completed a dramatic turnaround ahead of schedule in TXU's transformation into a high-performance industrial company. Drove TXU from a company performing in the bottom quartile to the top quartile in financial performance, operational excellence, market leadership, customer care, and performance management. Heightened investment in communities through increased funding for bill-payment assistance, energy efficiency programs, and philanthropy. Obtained full permits and began construction of three plants totaling 2.2 gigawatts of the most efficient coal plants in the U.S. and the largest growth investment in TXU's history. Executed and completed the largest private-equity buyout in U.S. history, bringing a 25% premium to shareholders.
