  • Using Gmail more effectively

    Hey 'Nikers!

I'm sure there are many of you out there who use gmail as their main email interface (if you don't, it's worth checking out. You can use your own domain's email like (charles at charlesredell dot com) as I do with the convienence of gmail).

If you do, I'd like to point you all to a great firefox extension which includes a lot of feature improvements that Google itself has never bothered to include (you need to be using Firefox to use this. Of course, you SHOULD be using Firefox anyway).

One of my favorites is the ability to include HTML in your email's signature. This allows you to customize your signature so it can include direct links to your email address, web site and yes, your Biznik profile using one of the nifty biznik badges!

If you decide to do this, check out the warning I posted at this forum, to save yourself an hour of the hair pulling out I just went through. Of course, if you have any questions, please feel free to hit me up. I'll help if I can.

    Charlie

  • Need to print Business Cards

Now that I have a fabulous new business card design and log thanks to the lovely and talented Brianna Young I am looking to get some business cards printed.

Does anyone have experience with a good, green (meaning environmentally friendly) printer that they can reccommend? I'd prefer someone in Seattle but online is good too.

    Thanks for the help! Charles

  • Wanted: Web Designer and/or graphic designer Offered: Copywriting and other wordsmithing (or evem money) (Seattle)

    I need two things please.

First, my web site is pretty sad. I know that. I have static html skills and that's all. I don't need anything too complex or fancy, but I need something that looks good, gets across the feeling I want to get across and is easy to for me to maintain/add content to.

Second, I need business cards. I could get some basic ones printed with a name and phone etc... but I want them to have a simple feel to them too. Again, I want them to get across the image I am hoping to portray. Nothing fancy, hopefully neither of these projects is too time consuming.

I can offer my word smithing abilities. I am a writer after all and can help you market your business using clear, concise, catchy copy on line or in print. I can ghost or simply writer your business' newsletter/blog or what have you. Hopefully we could start a long-term relationship of mutual support.

Or I can pay if you prefer. Some. I'm a new business.

  • Networking is my least favorite thing

I don't know why but I really don't like to network. Online it always seems so removed and impersonal, not to mention imposing. I mean, there's a million people on that site. Why would anyone look at my little profile? In person, I find it hard just to walk up to people I don't know and just start talking.

There's something different about Biznik though. Maybe it's the colors. Actually, I think it's that in my short time cruising it, I've seen a few names I actually know from around town (though I do love the colors). In most cases it's people I know from email groups I'm a part of, but a few are actual real, live people. I think that makes it seem more personable and real in a way that makes me want to get involved.

Anyway, I'm a writer and editor focused on the environment and sustainability, but I can and will write about most anything. I have experience writing press releases, online copy and copy for print collateral as well. I have led the design of a number of high-visibility print pieces for a local non-profit organization and, in a past life, was a stage manager, so am an excellent candidate to write copy and help steer your design projects.

I look forward to getting to know you all.
