What Chris does

I notice things you will never see from a cubicle or on the drive home. I'm the writer behind a tree, taking notes. I'm loaded with observations of human grace, fascinating behavior, absurdity and moronic acts. I drive multipe points of view right into each other, and laugh at myself from the privacy of my computer chair in the wee hours.

Drawing from decades of recognizing a good story, I generate concepts, create stories, and add just the right amount humor to books, spoken word and film scripts, print projects, branding, presentations, speeches and rants. I introduce humorous relief and charm into corporate lingo.

My last book, Home for the Holidays & Other Calamities was made into the 1995 feature film, Home for the Holidays, starring Holly Hunter, Robert Downey Jr., Ann Bancroft, Charles Durning and Claire Danes. Directed by Jodi Foster.

My work on the Rolling Stones European Tour featured tension-breaking humor for the crew, dispatched in each city.

What Chris does best

Make other people laugh at themselves and other people. I lighten up serious messages without obscuring the point. I crack the ice, let it breathe, bleed and wail. I trot out the funny. I even rant using colorful language. Nobody's perfect.

Education

I'm a perennial autodidact, creating my own lifelong curriculum. I went to Indiana University for a minute, then Herron School of Art for 3 years, and many, many advanced oil painting classes, most recently at Gage Academy of Art in Seattle. I studied the Enneagram to add depth to the characters in my creative writing. I survive life's vageries with humor and a waning memory.

Experience

Decades of freelancing, writing for the Boston Phoenix, contributing to books, articles, and writing about nearly everything from different points of view in every medium.

I work like a mule, entertain myself and others and sometimes go outside. Have you been there? It has great scenery.
