  • Great article! I like the way Kate has shown how ongoing contact, and ultimately, in-person interaction, as in an in-person networking group, still works. While online networking has expanded the "networking playing field" for small businesses, having the opportunity to meet prospective clients in person is important, especially for small businesses who operate in a geographically local area.

  • Excellent article, Ilise! I especially like your discussion about the nametags.

  • And I, too, support the idea of having job and consultant postings on Biznik. I recommend, however, that they be just a listing of the opportunities available, and not include postings of people looking for jobs/contracts. After all, that's what biz networking is all about already. ~~Cindy

  • Hi Barry,

Does the intern/apprentice need to be in Seattle or can they work with you virtually from somewhere else?

    Thanks, Cindy

  • I ghost write and edit for those who don't want to tackle writing their book themselves. And I can do it long-distance because of the marvels of technology ... :). And yes, I'm writing my own book(s), too.

  • One of the reasons why I use my real name is that I have a last name that's nearly impossible to spell, so I "put it out there" so people see it repeatedly. I also use it because it is me. I would not be the professional that I am under a pseudonym.

One of the great uses of taglines is to have a place to have fun with what you represent -- after you've identified yourself by your real name.

I also prefer to do business with people who regularly introduce themselves by their first and last names, especially at networking events. Hearing, "Hi, I'm Cindy" just doesn't have the same impact as "Hi, I'm Cindy Engquist".

  • Hi Sharon,

Besides my day biz, I am an artist for positive living. I write affirmations and express them visually. I'm on the east coast and I would like to send you some for display and sale in your new premises. How should I go about this?

CONGRATULATIONS on achieving your dream and finding your ideal way to contribute to the greater good!

    All the best, Cindy Engquist

  • Good for you, Adrienne, for forming this supportive organization! I'm also an artist and I have a big heart for artists, so one of my niches as a marketing and self-promotion coach is to help artists with inexpensive self-promotion. I'm on the other coast, so I'll send artists to your website.

  • Biznik is the first online business networking that is actually personal. Biznik has brought the best of in-person networking to the online world, and it has expanded and improved on what traditional in-person networking offers.
