  • Great thread...I'm going to post...then scroll back up and do some reading and favoriting for sure!

My blog is www.primagirldiver.blogspot.com where I blog about "The Life of a Girl In the Water". It's funny how easily optimized the blog has become...and I now have linked pages to the blog, which I'm working on filling.

It's another "site" to keep up...but I've had alot of my clients say they read something on my blog...so definitely worth working on.

Ok...now I'm off to reading from other Power Chicks!!

  • I'd totally be there! I think you were spot-on with the name...and whenever I mention it outside of Biznik...people want to know what it is.

Definitely think we need to GO BIG!! (And let me know if you need help with this...I'll volunteer to do whatever extra needs to happen so it's not all on your shoulders!)

  • This is such a timely article. I'm in the scuba industry and connected with industry throughout the world on Facebook.

One of the speakers at a diver convention decided to Facebook the fact that she was long overdue for payment from _________________ for her engagement at his expo. Then a chat ensued talking about how he "used" to be reputable, however this is causing speculation now.

I do alot of marketing on Facebook and realized instantly how damaging the social media sites can be. One upset customer can tell far more than 12 people about their experience...instantly.

  • Thanks for the article. I'm sooo guilty of opening up email, then Facebook, Biznik and industry forums...then it's noon and I've missed my morning and only have time to accomplish the "musts" not the "shoulds". Operating in catch up mode is never fun.

At this moment, I'm going to get off of the computer, write down what I'm thankful for and my future.

Also...if I were an employee instead of an owner, my work email wouldn't be opened until nine or ten a.m. anyway.

  • Thanks Ken.

This was a timely article as I sit this morning working on my travel newsletter. I send out three targeted newsletters per month...one general, one travel and one to potential students.

Your article made me realize I need to come up with a name for each. Since some subscribers get two letters per month, they won't feel like it's the same thing again.

Thanks again for the great article!

  • Hi!

My career path has flowed into scuba.

I teach scuba for a living in the Puget Sound area. For travelers, I can certify students fully in the Sound before their trip, or offer a "Referral Course" where they do class and pool here, then their Open Water dives at their travel destination.

In addition to teaching, I write for an international dive publication, XRay Magazine, in Copenhagen, Denmark. My column, GirlDiver, is going to be focusing on dive travel for girls in 2010.

I'm looking forward to meeting others in the travel world.

  • Facebook started as a "are you kidding, I need one of those?" moments...but has been valuable so far.

I have not only gained business clients, but have reconnected with people from school. When they are aware of what I do for a living, a referral to an old schoolmate is a natural.

Each day I post what I'm doing in the scuba world...so my profession is etched in their minds. I have become "their" scuba instructor, though they have never taken a class...yet.

My latest thrust is to add women throughout the world who dive, as my product line is getting ready to expand. This will give me an audience to "share" one new item at a time with.

Facebook comes with a warning though...manage your time or Facebook will eat it.

  • I'm excited to meet ALL OF YOU!!

I have a company GirlDiver.com that focuses on promoting the sport of scuba to women (through teaching, writing and a fledgling product line)...and in a highly male dominated sport...I don't always get to connect with women like this.

Someday, my hope is that I'll have women coming from all over for retreats, classes and trips, as they want to connect with other women in a sport and environment they love. For now, it's baby steps.

I'm really looking forward to getting to connect with other PowerChicks making a difference in our area. How inspiring!!

  • Thanks so much for this article. As a scuba instructor (teaching a luxury sport...) there are times when I have to just "live on beach time" and not let everything get to me.

The principles of yoga are so paramount to living a whole life...and sometimes the state of just "being" can change the entire flow of the day.

What a great reminder for us to take time to just BE, in our new world of "hurry, hurry, hurry...turn and look...has anything happened yet?"

  • What a timely article. I just upgraded my phone so I can facebook and twitter on the road. I don't twitter yet...was reluctant to start. I definitely need to lessen my time on the social networking groups.

One thing I'm working on is doing videos for my industry. My industry (scuba) is a bit behind when it comes to any form of marketing.

I think that in my case, a morning/evening facebook visit, daily visit to Biznik and a LinkedIn would work well.

Thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one feeling overwhelmed by the 20 sites my peers are using.
