  • Hi Kaya,

I just joined the group and noticed this discussion.

My "positive thing" is to continue reminding myself that whatever I focus on grows. So the more I get caught up in all of the negative economic news, the more I will begin to experience it personally.

Conversely, the more I focus on how wonderful my clients are and how much I enjoy helping them express their knowledge and talents in their websites, professional articles and book manuscripts, the more great clients and projects I will attract!

This seems to be working, because the last few months have been my best ever.

  • I would really like to attend this, Caelan, but I just noticed that it conflicts with the monthly event of an organization I belong to (Self-Employed Creative Professionals). I'm looking forward to attending your next event in North Portland, though!

  • Hi Christian,

I would really like to come to this, but I am on the Executive Board of a nonprofit agency, and we are having a teleconference Oct. 16 at 12:00 p.m. So please keep me on your list and let me know when the next one is.

  • I just went to your website and found it really interesting. I even found the name of Kat Koppett, whose materials on storytelling I've used for teaching college writing classes.

I tried to find articles on how people are using improv in human development and training, but I didn't see any links. Did I miss something?

Also, the word "improv" brings up visions of actors standing in front of groups and coming up with really clever (and funny) skits off the tops of their heads. Which touches the panic button for me!

Can you help to educate me about how such methods are being used by regular folks?

    Thank you!

  • Thanks for your suggestion, Leif. I'll check them out--I haven't heard of them before. I'd be happy to let you know what kind of information I come up with!

  • This looks really fun, David. I'll be there. And I vote for a shady spot along with Susan!

  • Hi Beth,

I had never thought about changing the font or point size for a final edit. That's an interesting idea.

Like you, I go back and forth between the screen and hard copy, too. I like to start by working onscreen first. I find that I get absolutely immersed in the text this way, which helps me get inside the writer's head. (In fact hours can go by without me even being aware of it.)

If it's a long document, I work in sections or chapters. After I have completed the intense editing of a section, I print it out. Then I physically get up, move away from my computer, and go downstairs to a comfy chair in the living room. With pen in hand, I read each page carefully, making notes and changing things as I go.

Then I go back to the computer again. If the changes have been substantive, I will print out a final copy one more time just to be sure I have caught everything--the flow of ideas as well as the mechanics.

  • Hi Kaya,

I just joined Biznik and discovered you were holding this class! I plan on coming, too.
