Hey, you guys!
Thanks so much for coming out yesterday. I had such a good time talking social media with all y'all.
Hopefully, travels will bring me this way again soon, and I can do this again.

Hey, you guys!
Thanks so much for coming out yesterday. I had such a good time talking social media with all y'all.
Hopefully, travels will bring me this way again soon, and I can do this again.
Me, too, Susan! I'm new to you guys but a big fan already. See you in a few!
Thanks for being bold, Suzanne.
If you could forward a list of direct links to me, I'll review your stuff for guinea-pig-dom, but that sounds like a fair batch of outlets, and could serve as a good example.
You can email to my actual addy, or here on Biznik.
And glad you're coming! Yay!
Yay! I get to make it to an event while I'm in town! Looking forward to seeing all y'all again.
Dang--I could have sworn I saw a different date on this when I hit the RSVP button. Unfortunately, this is the week after I'm in town. Boo hoo. I loved this event! All you Seattleites (Seattleans? Seattlers?) should go. Big fun, good info.
And for everyone, I've uploaded my presentation--yes, the Never-Before-Seen-by-Anyone PPT--to Slideshare, here. You can view the slides online or download, as you like.
Thank you all again for being so warm and welcoming. Next time, full song and dance!
Leila! You are too kind! But I am glad to hear we got some wheels turning, and that you're putting stuff into action right now.
I can't wait to see what else you come up with as marketing. (Rubs hands together with glee...)
Marlene - We should take that act on the road, huh? :-)
I hope that I got across some of the foundational principles behind these tools, and working in this newest set of media. Once you get the concepts, you can come up with sooooo many more cool ways to spread the word of You.
Amanda & Valerie - I'm up here in about a month to do a talk at the Seattle Design Center and will see if I can extend my trip and do another one of these. It was pretty fun and (I think) informative, despite a few technical glitches.
David - No worries. We could have fit a few more people in the room, but it was getting mighty hot in there with the crew we had. Must have been all the heat coming off all those big brains :-)
Another fantastic event. You managed to find the perfect combination of information exchange and plain old socializing. Despite the name, I'd recommend the Author-Publisher Roundtable to anyone wanting to get their feet wet in writing or in Biznik--you don't need to be an aspiring author to get a ton out of it (although you may be inspired to become one because of it!)
Thanks, guys. Ilise! You're hovering! ;-)
She's right, though: as fine as the site is, the real magic in this network is real people coming together. So huzzah for that, and happy to be able to do my bit in some small way.
Phil - I'm not ag'in judicious display of one's accomplishments. But I do agree that what you do for them should be #1, front and center.
Ava - I'm so glad you found it helpful. Hopefully, you can use it across other self-promo vehicles as well, with a little creative application.
As I understand it, 20 is max, and there are already 22 if you include Dan & me. (Which we probably should!)
Like Dan says above, keep your eye on this space the day or so before. Stuff inevitably comes up and people have to cancel.
Lori - I wish I'd kept better track of who's come from where, but you're right--between the new people who find you and the old people who re-find you, social networking sites are great for bidness.
Valerie & Christa - I'm not sure how the wait-list thing works. (Dan?) There's one other person emailed me RIGHT after it filled who's at the top of the list, such as it is. So let's hang loose and see what happens.
If the response is really positive, there's a chance I could extend a trip next month to do a repeat, as well.
Yay for synchronicity!
Glad I could be helpful.
Christa - Thanks! It's a tough thing to let go of; we are all so much more than people's first impressions of us. And especially in a difficult business climate, there's this compulsion to do the business version of the actor's classic, "But I can play anything!"
Glad you find the formula useful. Pass it on!!
Ann - Great meeting you, too. I'm a big fan of the Cluetrain tenets and peeps, both. Kind of amazing how all the stuff they talk about is so obvious, once you see it in action.
Melinda - I'm doing one event with Dan a week from Friday - October 17. And Suzanne lives here! Now that she's proven such an amazing hostess, I think we can expect more on the horizon from her.
Ingrid - It was lovely meeting you. And it is easy to connect when no one has an agenda (other than, you know, connecting.) Everyone was super low-key and just into meeting everyone else. Ergo, event excellence.
Ladies! Not sure if November's trip will allow for an extra day or two, but if so, I'll definitely talk to Dan about doing it again. And I plan to post a page of notes (which, Dan, I hope I can rope you into adding to) that all Bizniks can check out if interested.
Well, I was floored by it all: the amazing turnout, the beautiful views, the fun I had meeting everyone. Thank you to everyone who came and a big, mega-normous shout-out to Suzanne, who pulled this thing together.
Dy - You know you're there in spirit with me!
Suzanne/Valerie - Alas, it's the tail end of this Seattle trip. But surely, I'll be back. (And quit calling you "Shirley"...yeah, yeah...)
Marlene - Don't worry about keeping up! The preso is all about how to take this at your own pace and participate in what works for you. And there's PLENTY of time for questions and discussion: once we get the basics on the table, we'll see what people really need to learn about.
Hey, Jessie.
Sorry--I didn't make it clear. What I meant was to create some boilerplate piece of text that you can use as the basis for all of your descriptions of you.
For example, I have a basic bio that I crafted years ago, when I was still acting. I'd change it this way and that, depending on what kind of show I was in, or what other kind of usage I'd need it for (people are always asking for bios when you're an actor--or a speaker, or whatever).
For these purposes, you're looking to create some piece of language that tightly sums up what it is you do for people and why you are the BEST person to do it. Then you make it bigger or smaller, or funnier or more serious, depending on the circumstances.
Make sense?
Karrie - We are more alike in our wobbliness than we are our Bergman-esque Grim Reaper-ness, so I say "dobbleganger" is an even better fit. (And thanks for all the kind words, dobbly!)
Dyana - You? Cower? I'll believe that when I see it. Glad you dug it, though. You never know what'll hit the bullseye.
Howard - Blend away! (With, you know, flowery credit and suchlike.) And I'm totally down with the shoot. I just need a cute new headband and a free ticket to Montreal.
Judy - Hard? Tell me about it. I suffer from serious Cobbler's Kid Syndrome in this department. But we teach what we need to know, right? Sharing it out loud makes me work a little harder to make myself clear, so hey, thank YOU. (Doppleganger display will have to wait for another trip, alas, but we'll figure it out somehow.)
Ingrid - Haha! Thanks. Really, none of this stuff is new; it's the same basic principles, served up a bit differently. Some people like French, some people like German, is all.
Holy cats! I can't believe all you nice people are coming out to welcome me to your fair city!
Then again, I couldn't believe it when Suzanne said she'd pull this shindig together.
Seattle Freeze, my Aunt Fanny!
Los Angeles in the house!!!
This seems like a great way to meet all you Seattle types in one nifty spot. And I can walk there--woo hoo!
Looking forward to meeting you all.
This Wednesday? But I won't be in Seattle until next Wednesday.
Sigh.
Back to the events board...
Hey, Leif (and anyone else joining in now).
According to the rules on the contest site, the top 10 entries in terms of votes will get a call from SWA in the next two weeks, and after a phone interview (screening for felons? garden-variety miscreants?), they'll decide which three contestants advance to finals in Vegas.
I'll let you all know as soon as I-all know. Thanks again!
