Here is the email I sent to another art group about the shows in Pioneer Square.
(If anyone wants to roam around there tomorrow - Saturday - please contact me. I would love to meet you there.)
This email is very late in coming to you all so if you want to see most of these shows you need to go this week. Now the disclaimer is that none of these shows are fiber shows (unless you count paper) but I am writing because they seemed unusually stellar this month.
This month (May) the art in the galleries in Pioneer Square is (to my eye) even more amazing than usual. I think most of the shows run through Saturday the 30th. And most are open Tues - Sat 11 AM - 5 PM though some hours may vary.
If perspective interests you David Schwarz's work at Foster/White Gallery is a must see. He is a glass artist and uses etching and layered glass to create phenomenal pieces! Imagine Escher type tessellations in round huge pieces.
The two artists at Davidson gallery are very amazing too. John Grade did a large piece of around 400 lip castings to make a large piece that is a lot of fun. It was commissioned by islanders. (My lips - and teeth - are #103). The other artist is Kevin Fletcher. His monotypes are amazing.
For us FiberNet folk, the vintage letter collage show at the Grover Thurston Gallery is quite nice. Lastly, Kent Lovelace, a favorite of mine, has a show at the Liz Harris gallery in Pike Place Market.
I often enjoy the art in the pioneer galleries but this month so many of the shows really stood out for me. I have listed only four here but there are a few other galleries that I am planning to go back to for a second time this week.
All of these galleries can be found on line for directions. Here is the map of the Seattle Art Dealers Association: http://www.seattleartdealers.com/map.htm You can sign up to receive their monthly brochure at any of the participating galleries.
Lastly, if anyone is interested in going to First Thursdays in Pioneer Square, please let me know. I often go and would love to have company.
