  • Though, sadly, I live too faraway to visit (Eugene, Oregon) I also highly recommend visiting any museum that is showcasing Impressionists paintings and drawings.

I was fortunate to visit the Louvre and Museum D'Orsay (which I think has a larger and better impressionist exhibit than the Louvre) in Paris last year. I LOVED seeing all these wonderful impressionist paintings and kept pinching myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming.

Impressionism was a pivotal point in painting history. It was a long struggle for the painters and they suffered quite a while before finally being recognized and excepted in the "traditional" art world. From Impressionism grew many other artistic styles of which many we take for granted today.

So go ahead, add a little bit of history to your life experience. When you are face to face with these paintings you may walk away humbled, inspired, in awe, energized, amazed, or giddy with delight.

  • I use Wordpress too and host it myself as well. Leif mentioned that Wordpress hosts for free but he gave you www.wordpress.org when it should be .com (for the free hosting that is). The .org site is where you can download the code of Wordpress (free also) to use on your own site.

Either way there are tons of free theme templates you can use or if you host it yourself you can change the blog theme to fit your website look and feel. You'll need to know xhtml and css and php.

If you get confused the .org site has lots of help info.

  • Hi Jeff, sorry I'll miss the book signing event. I may have to settle for a bookplate instead. But who knows, I'm sure we'll end up that way some point in the near future. Would love to see the new backyard (weather permitting).

  • Hi Leif,

I'm going to pass on this only because I'm already involved with a group. But, I do want to say for those who are thinking about joining, "Do it."

It makes a world of difference when you have someone(s) helping you be accountable in meeting your goals. And I have found I am much more motivated in getting them done.

    Good luck!

  • Hi Leif,

I'm a newbie here on Biznik and lucky you this is my first post. Yay! Hah!

Your idea sounds like a good one but I thought I would share what I started up several weeks ago. I'm Owner and Creative Director of a Visual Communication Design Business (Graphic Design). I belong to a lot of different networking forums and sites . On one of the graphic design forums I formed a group with other designers/printers called Goal Accountability Group. I set up a Google Calendar (which is free) for us so that each of us can post what our business goals are within a two week time frame. The public calendar is up for anyone to see and it really seems to be working. We've all felt energized in seeing what other people are accomplishing which in turn makes each of us work harder in fullfilling our own business goals.

Our goal listings are generic, like reorganize files, make 5 cold calls a week, create new promo, finish contact list, work on client mailer, etc. Keeping them generic protects us and our clients from those who might try to steal clients or ideas, etc.

After two weeks we start fresh with another two weeks of goals. Some projects may be carried over from the last two weeks but the goal is to finish them within two weeks. Some projects might be huge like designing and creating a website. In this case I've asked people to break down those projects into smaller chunks so they can work on within that two week time frame. Website example broken down might be, research competition sites, collect sites that you like, create a color, design, type palette, write up a need-on-site list, rough out how many pages you'll need, do 5 thumbnails designs, pick 3 and do color mockups, etc.

For me, I have accomplished more doing this than I have a in a long while.

    Best regards,

    ~Danita
