  • Would love to attend when you find a location in Seattle. I have a Board meeting tonight that the traffic would be a conflict. I'll keep my eyes open for any suitable locations and let you know if i find anything.

  • Hi Danielle, I saw your post to my article with your dilemma with your signature style and the fun graphic/vintage tees. I think you should try to stay true to what makes you feel authentic - but if you don't think it's professional enough (and i would agree), a bit of structure may be all you need. Pair the graphic tee with a great blazer, the cute scarf you have on in your photo and some tailor jeans or pinstripe slacks. you are still present in your appearance but you've added that authority that gets your further in the door. To take it a step further, instead of graphic tees, look for dress shirts in prints - polka dots, multi stripes, retro geo prints, etc. that can have the same graphi effect.
    most of all, have fun!

  • Hi Barbara, you really get it! you nailed it prefectly. must be that Parisian influence. Really it is more do with being intentional - did you intentionally decide to look like you just rolled out of bed to meet with a client. I see that a lot in the service industry.
    thanks for your feedback, Darcey

  • Actually, i would believe... i've lived in many small towns in Oregon; North Bend, Reedsport, Springfield, to name a few. Keep up the inspiring work - i find that most people just need permission to change how they see themselves and the tools to make a change. the greatest gift one can give is the permission to change.

  • Nice work Vicki! Your WIB organization sounds great. I'm sure it was very well received by your audience. I do a lot of "Personal Branding Through Appearance" workshops for companies that are looking to have their employees take greater ownership in how they are representing themselves and the brand that they work for. It wonderful to see people tak in interest in being more intentional when they get dressed, like Paul said.

  • Hi Nina, thanks for reading the article. The goal with having a personal style is that it should support your life, personality, goals, and confident. If denim is your choosen style then this is something worth investing in. That's rule#1. if you feel like your denim looks frumpy it most likely can be attributed to fit and color. Is it faded and styling is too much like jeans you wear to garden in? For 'dress' jeans make sure they are as dark blue as you can get them, with no distressing or intentional fading.
#2. Next look for a boot cut - it never goes out of style, and is very flattering to the hips. #3 Also check the length - you want these to be long enough that they have a single break in the front like a pair of slacks. they should be long enough to wear with a nice pair of dress shoes. Jeans that are too short, faded, pegged, above the belly button - are all going to look dated and frumpy. #4 In addition to the traditional 5 pocket style I would also look for a trouser cut jean. Your body type will dictate where and what you shop for. If you have curves and aren't 21 yrs old i would recommend Christopher Blue jeans, Red Engine, David Kahn, DKNY & Tommy Hilfiger. the range in price for these will be $65 - $150. Expensive jeans are made from a tighter weave of fabric, won't stretch out quickly, don't need to washed after every wear and will last longer. And when the sales gal tells you to get a size smaller - Do it! Your jeans should be snug. Baggy jeans are also an obvious sign of frumpy and sloppy. Places I recommend to look for the these brands: Nordstrom POV dept, CC McKenzie in Seattle, Mercer in U-village, and www.zafu.com for how to find the perfect fit. I hope that helps!

  • I would strongly recommend attending this event. If you haven't experienced (and i mean "experience") My Day Office yet, you are really in for a mind blow! it is an amazing concept. Fully baked! nothing over looked. Shauna is inspiring in her vision and energy. I helped her develop the dress code & uniforms for her staff and she was incredible to work with. This concept if for every person who has ever had a meeting in a Starbucks, and felt lame doing it.

  • I think that Christi Masi of The Healthy Bride (www.healthy-bride.com) has joined biznik recently and is a noted member of the wedding industry community. She's been recognized by Bride magazine, The Knot, and recently won an award from Seattle Bride magazine. you should check her out and collaborate with her or at the very least encourage her to join. I have an article on her site that I wrote regarding "How to choose a wedding dress that fits your personality" and we've collaborated on other events/ideas.

I also know that Laura Totten of Counting Stars Photography is a well reputed wedding photographer and a biznik member that you may want to get in touch with.

    good luck, cheers!
