According to the scientific and regulatory community we chiropractic doctors are "Spinal Health Specialists." Most of what I do relates to spinal health care and it's relationship to overall health and wellness.

In my office I use the Activator Methods Technique as well as others. I help people move from pain, disability, and disfunction to comfort and full function. That takes any number of forms, but usually starts as first aid for an episode of low back pain, neck pain or headaches.

Once patients are comfortable, we begin to talk about how they can stay that way or be even more comfortable: if they want to. That usually involves one of many discussions about daily "practices" they can choose from which will stabilize and strengthen their spine (or "core" if you prefer).

I also do and teach tai chi and it permeates all other aspects of my life including my chiropractic practice. Classes are Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at Bally Total Fitness, and Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at the Everett Community College during the Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters. As a discipline that integrates bodywork, breathwork and energy work, tai chi provides an entry point for gaining awareness in a wide variety of areas. Many patients benefit from participating in the classes I teach because they know that I know their spine and health issues and that they can safely participate without being concerned about me asking them to do something that will hurt them.

Match up people's means, motivation and interest with what will best help them maintain or achieve their health goals. I help people sort through stuff (health impacting issues) so they can make strategic choices that have low downside risks and a high probabilty of succeeding.

There's a c.v around here somewhere describing my 12-plus years of chiropractic activism. Essentially, I have been a health nut and fitness fanatic for over 35 years, a husband for over 30 years, a practicing chiropractor for over 25 years, and a tai chi guy for over 17 years. Now I put my energy into aligning myself with what is happening rather than trying to make things happen my way, and to being present.
