  • Wanted: Roofer

We are putting a new roof on the old homestead this summer (there goes the trip to Italy). If you know of any fabulous roofers can you please have them contact me. They must be experienced roofers, not contractors that have done a roof or two because this one is a doozy.

Many thanks for helping me get rid of the catch basins in the kitchen when the rains come.

  • Which came first the chicken or the egg?

The basis of this question is the cold start, making something from absolutely nothing.

My question is... what started you on the path you are on? Is your company, idea, service business model completely new and never before seen by mankind? If so, how did you do it??? How were you THE EGG?

(There I said it, I believe that the egg came first)

  • What Do You Keep On Your Office Desk Apart From Work?

Over the years I have always found it a good guide to someones character by what they keep on their desk. For instance people with lots of toys are often the least stressful people. People with numerous photographs of their family members are usually the most boring.

Is it true that a cluttered desk equals a cluttered mind and an empty desk equals empty mind?

By the way...take a look at Seattle Organizing Works recent promotion if you are concerned about what your desk says about you.

  • Are your promtions bringing you business?

If you have posted a promotion, is it increasing your business? If not, do you have an idea why the promotion has not worked? Was it the wording, time limit?

  • Sending out a message of peace to Biznik members in Pakistan

I know that I often take my life in the US for granted. Last night I was having dinner with some friends and we were talking about who we would throw into a volcano if we had two choices....

Ann Coulter and Karl Rove Dick Cheney and Alf from 80's television Kid Rock and Warren Jeffs

    you know...that game

It is all in good fun. Regardless of how angry or disgusted I am with my government I can openly have a conversation like this without fear of persecution.

Let us all hope that our fellow Biznik members will one day be as lucky as we all are.

  • If business is slow do you offer a service?

Someone asked me today if my company handles estate sales. That is not a niche that we want to handle so my initial reaction was to say no. Then I thought about it and realized that if work was to get slow, perhaps we would be willing to handle some estate sales. It certainly would not be my first, or even second choice of client, but....

So the question is, at what stage of your business do you deliniate your services and stick to your guns!

  • Insurance Referrals

I know that there are a zillion Biznik members to chose from, but I am wondering if anyone has recommendations for a member that they have worked with for life insurance. Just turned 42 and feeling Father Time knocking at the door :).

    Thanks

  • What are these weird symbols??

On the right hand side of the page under INDIE BIZ TIPS FROM MARKETING MIX there are often strange symbols mixed in with the text. For example....

Does anyone else see these or is it just me?

  • Do you always use a contract?

I have not been burned by a client paying for services....yet, but it is bound to happen sooner rather than later. Do you all use contracts with your clients, or is it a case by case basis?

  • Would anyone be interested in a holiday art fest

While many of the members of biznik are artists by profession, many are artists behind the scenes, and an art fest would be a great opportunity for us to not only make some money for the holidays, but also to network, and spread the biznik word in the Seattle community.

I am wondering if there are folks out there in our mighty biznik community that would be interested in working with me to set up some sort of holiday art fest.

  • What do you do with old computer "stuff"

I have a client who just dumped bags of old phones and palm pilots and chargers and digital cameras and cable modems etc. on me because she does not want them anymore.

I want to be responsible with the items and not just take the bags to Goodwill...so what do I do?

  • Posting of Estate Sale

In addition to a posting on Craig's List, does anyone know of a great online resource for posting an upcoming estate sale. Most specifically, I am interested in selling the contents of the estate here in Seattle.

    Many thanks Elizabeth
