What Emma does

Summary: I build simple, beautiful, and user-friendly websites for small businesses, especially those selling unique and interesting products. I specialize in e-commerce and I do the design as well as the programming, integrating it together to create an elegant website that you can maintain yourself without knowing any code (more at Red Acorn Design). Second, I run a green-powered, progressive, and all-around-cool web hosting company called Acorn Host. Lastly, I make art, write, and think a heck of a lot about how to rewrite culture to support everyone to be vibrantly alive and happy.

Web Design: I create simple, elegant, and user-friendly websites and online stores through Red Acorn Design. My speciality is e-commerce: selling goods and services online. I create sites that are beautiful, user-friendly, search engine friendly, and programmed exactly to meet your needs. I do both design and programming, integrating and maximizing the benefits of the web medium. I love to create a visual design that really "speaks your language" and brings forth what you want you want your customers to get that your business is about. To do this I have you find sites that really appeal to you and find out why, and then integrate those qualities into the design.

I can help you navigate setting up to take online payments, (e-commerce), integrate a blog, make your site match your existing print materials, and create a customized admin system for you to easily administer your products and content.

I like to keep things as simple as possible (but no simpler), and I enjoy working with smaller clients, especially independent business owners, work-at-home folks, and creative, friendly, happy people who do what they love and love what they do.

Web Hosting: I run a green-powered, women-owned (that's me), progressive web hosting company called Acorn Host. We have excellent uptime, affordable packages, great customer service, and lots of pre-installed scripts like Wordpress and Zen Cart for the do-it-yourself folks.

Things I Think About: Right now I'm interested in authentic connection and transparency in business and the intersection and blurring of personal and 'professional' identities online and how that affects how we interact, market, and live.

I also consistently think about art and creativity (especially as it relates to spirituality), conscious business, passive income, NVC (non-violent communication), Taoism, intrinsic motivation, emotional healing, personal growth, and other woo-woo stuff.

My geeky side likes to play with geek culture, Web 2.0, futurism (ie the Singularity), and any idea that seems interesting at the time.

Last but not least, I like to ask myself 'How much happiness can I stand?' and do whatever leads me there.

Art: I create art primarily for my own amusement and enlightenment (seeing inside my subconscious and whatnot), and I think art should be something everyone does, like cooking or taking a shower. It feeds your soul and cleanses your mind, and everyone can do it. Right now I post my artwork on Flickr.

Writing: I have a few blogs that I write on from time to time:

  • Tao of Prosperity is about conscious business, passive income, and joyful work.
  • Joy Ninja is about radical happiness for everyone.
  • cheekyboots is my sometimes cheeky, sometimes raw personal blog, where I write about personal growth, healing, and other random things that are going on in my life.

Thanks for visiting! Write me a note, visit my blogs, ask me a question if you'd like to connect!
