What wonderful, straight-forward advice on this often intimidating topic. Thank you! This is the third thing I've read today that mentioned the importance of a good title. Clearly it's time to sharpen the pencil and get good at creating catchy titles!
Thanks again, Erica
Hi Phyllis,
Thanks for breaking down this often times extremely effective marketing technique in a way that lets us know exactly what to do! Great ideas on re-purposing, too.
Cheers, Erica
Hi Laila and Katie,
I'll likely do this workshop (or a similar one) later this summer and would love to have you both attend!
Thanks for your interest!
Cheers, Erica
Welcome to all new additions! I can't wait to meet everyone.
If you're inclined to share, please come with one example of a marketing success and/or one failure. Then we'll have a bounty of real-life examples to work through. You can also email then to me in advance if you prefer.
Cheers, Erica
Hi Leigh and Rebecca,
I'm so glad both of you will be joining fo the workshop. Can't wait to see you there!
Cheers, Erica
Hi Jabez,
Yeah! I saw this in time to get in this time. Can't wait.
Cheers, Erica
Hi Jason,
Thank you for making good marketing strategy seem so doable. I use a three step approach to creating a marketing plan because it's simple...and I can remember all the steps when there's only three!
I especially like #6 on your list. : )
Cheers, Erica
Susan,
I love that the first point you make is to identify the "what": what is the video going to do for the organization? Although many videos effectively yank at your heartstrings, it's so important to know what all that yanking is supposed to lead to!!
Did you see the YWCA's video at this year's luncheon? Wow is all I can say.
Thank you for this great article, Erica
Connie,
I'm absolutely awful at remembering names and faces! Thank you for this simple technic. Can't wait to try it out!
Cheers, Erica
Thanks for the great comments. Since basics are not exactly exciting, I'm glad the messenger makes them more interesting to read about!
Suzi,
I love that you started with target market. Dozens of times each week, clients ask if they should do an e-blast, build a website, hold an event, twitter, create a brochure, etc. My response is the same every time: "It depends on who you're trying to reach and what you want them to do."
Thanks for the great article!
Cheers, Erica
Wonderful encouragement on what proves to be a very tough thing for many small business owners...even those of us who do marketing for a living! I teach a communications class at the University of Washington and one of my mantras is that marketing should be about your essense, not your everything. If we all followed your advice, that would be so much easier.
Thanks for the practical suggestions!
Jeff -- Thanks for your articles. Logos are indeed overwhelming and it's easy to procrastinate on getting one done even though it's clear that small businesses benefit from strong branding. Having a guide makes it all seem much less daunting!
