  • Joseph,

I must apologize for not being the first to respond...

    I'm intrigued. Email me.

Also, I'd have to agree with Joseph's hatred of Go Daddy... After more than a year of dealing with their site I've recently decided that it is horrendous!

They can handle traffic, that is not a problem. If for some reason you find yourself with a million hits, for one, you'll probably be rich and owe me lunch and two, you can always up your bandwidth by paying the devil his dues.

My hatred is derived from their slow site due to the enormous amounts of advertisments and their account interface is convoluted and not well designed.

    Enough ranting. :-p

  • Sweet, will do!

Amy, I believe there will be caesar salad on the side and potentially a vegetarian alternative but I'm not 100% on that. There's always the option of liquid diet ... but that may lead to questionable behavior and slurring of words ... :-P

  • I would love to see this as a feature as well ... I have invited many people but only a few actually signed up. I have a general idea of who those are, but cannot know for sure.

    Another idea:

I've had several people sign up with out using the link ... which makes the invite system superfluous.

What if when individuals are sent an invite link through the Biznik site, their email would be stored and if / when they sign up, regardless of if they use the link, the first individual who invited them will get credit.

  • Haha, I love it Banu...

When I was 10 I came up with the meatball scooper. I had to make meatballs with my mom once and my hands got really cold! So i decided to come up with a scissor like contraption that had spoon scoops on the ends. That way you could just cup out the meat and extract it into the pan using the ice cream type release...

I drew it all up and showed my parents and they said, "oh yeah, that's really great... I think I've seen that before" ...

  • Couple things Maggie,

When it comes to online purchasing or payment, your site must create a sense of trust with the user. Just as with any other marketing piece, if it doesn’t look well thought out or professional, people will be less likely to do business with you.

Websites need structure and an inviting aesthetic presence. There are several ways you can achieve this:

    1. The first would be font choice. Immediately when visiting your site I see you’ve got at least four different fonts being used. Two is about the maximum that should used. Fonts can help sift through the hierarchy of information. What am I to think when there is no consistency in size or font choice? It feels chaotic and disorganized.

    2. Layout structure. The text displayed extends the width of the browser window. It is very difficult to read having to scan across such a wide span, and therefore, as the user I am less likely to read all of the information and get confused as to what you want me to do. You’ve got to make it plain as day for users. I shouldn’t have to think! Read this article and it will help clarify

    3. Color choice. The same principles I talked about with fonts can be applied with color as well. I need consistency and organization as the user.

With these items combined, you will draw your users in and create trust. If I have to pay to enter the contest, I need to trust you and your site. Otherwise, I won’t even think twice and I will leave the site without reading anything.

I hope this helps… and isn’t too harsh.

    My best,

    Erin

  • Fantastic. I've been crawling the web lately and reading everything I can get my hands on!

    Some of my frequents:

    1. Smashing Magazine. LOVE love love their stuff. They have very relevant information for more than just web designers & developers.

    2. HONGKIAT. This is more of a technical blog... Has many categories that are relating to online and tech industries.

    3. PSD Tuts. Cool photoshop tutorials and such. I like to see what I can create :-)

    4. FaveUp. I gather inspirational tidbits from here. Some great designs...

  • Hey Judy,

What a fabulous article. Thank you for sharing.

This article has some related information also covered in the article I began this thread with, F-Shaped Patter

    I Quote:

    • Users won't read your text thoroughly in a word-by-word manner. Exhaustive reading is rare, especially when prospective customers are conducting their initial research to compile a shortlist of vendors. Yes, some people will read more, but most won't.
    • The first two paragraphs must state the most important information. There's some hope that users will actually read this material, though they'll probably read more of the first paragraph than the second.
    • Start subheads, paragraphs, and bullet points with information-carrying words that users will notice when scanning down the left side of your content in the final stem of their F-behavior. They'll read the third word on a line much less often than the first two words.

    End Quote.

So tell me what blogs do you read, and why? Where do you find the most informational resources and interesting tidbits?

  • Let's say for example you'd like to do some research on your competition. So you go to Google and search under "portland business coaches". The plugin will show you details on WHY those results were returned. There are many facets to SEO and one can never be 100% sure as to why Company A showed up over Company B. However, the information this tool provides can help you to better understand what you can do on your website to return hire search results.

Take a look at the linked page and scroll down to SEO for Firefox Extension Features. This quickly outlines the items it displays when returning search results. Most of those items figure into your websites "searchabilty" and rank.

It might benefit you to contact your web manager and/or a reputable SEO expert like Barry Hurd to find out more on native search results and how to get hire rankings.

  • Just came across yet another helpful tool: Web Marketing SEO Tool

I really liked this one... Helps to gain perspective.

I downloaded the plugin for Mozilla but it doesn't seem to be operating properly. When I searched all of the data that was supposed to be displayed had question marks... as if there was no data...

Bob, have you tried it? What are your results?
