Thank you Dan and Lara for putting together such a great event. I leaned something from each presentation. And, Thanks to all the volunteers that helped make the event run so smoothly. It is a real pleasure to be a part of this community.
Ken... Thank you for your professionalism during my presentation and welcome to Biznik. You were helpful and courteous while putting me at ease. I was hardly aware that you were even filming and to me, that is a sign of a real professional. I look forward to seeing some of your work. ...Howard
Melinda...
If you are curious how do you get those prospective customers to actually give you an order, then I suggest that you attend a free workshop designed just for you.
Then if you want more free instruction after that, you should attend another free workshop that will add upon the first one.
This is the real spirit of Biznik and it is right here for your convenience. If you had to pay for this training it would cost you in the range of $500 or more. Just because you asked, the universe has provided it for you free of charge.
Hope to see you soon. ...Howard
Robert...
Great article about a subject near and dear to me. I once licensed a fast-food concept and another of my business ventures was licensing a software+hardware system to the foodservice industry through my licensed dealers.
I love the clearly written, down-to-earth, plain-speak language you have used. I would like to connect with you and pass referrals your way if you desire. No license fees or referral fees required. ;)

Attention all Indies...
This is a very informative and great opportunity for you to discover how important biz financial stability is to your business long-term sustainability.
If you cannot make this one, both Berry and I will be hosting some others at different times and locations.
You can watch for them on Berry's event listing or on Howard's event listing.
Take advantage of these free workshops for some basic information that we all need to know to survive and profit in your business.
I've spent over 40 years looking for this key information that Berry and Business Resource Services will share with you.
Lisa... Looks like a great event. I wish I could attend. ...Howard
Kevin... Nice looking wrap. I think the Chevy HHR was a great choice for your use. I'm thinking I should put a "clown nose" on the front of my funny PT Cruiser now. ...Howard
Ben... I would encourage you to build a network group in Bozeman that would be as supportive as the Seattle Biznik group.
It's after you become friends that business referrals and real connections start to flow and clowning around actually improves that process.
...Howard
I'm in till the end.
Amy... I am looking for a good venue since MDO closed. Watch my postings and I will do a Seattle location of this same workshop later this summer. ...Howard
The next Understanding Your Biz Finances mini workshop will be held July 14th and July 23rd.
If you are interested in the complete Biz Financial Essentials workshop, please contact me because we will schedule them according to demand. Thanks. ...Howard
Deborah... Yes, we have a couple more of these mini-workshops on this subject scheduled next month and, yes they are on the Eastside.
You can find them at this link.
If you are interested in the complete 16-24 hour workshop, we will be having one in Seattle, drop me a message. ....
Chris... Sorry to hear about your illness. I hope your recovery is complete. If so, I hope to see you soon at a Biznik event.
Yes, you did miss this event by about a year. But, the good news is that there are still opportunities to learning more. Here's a link to some of my current free Biznik workshops.
...Howard
Caroline... Our conversation will be well-suited for your desired objective. Also, The Village is ground level with drive-up parking directly in front of the entrance. It will be easy for you to get in. ...Howard
Paul... Thank you for your well written article. You offer such a valuable service. I hope many will read it. Your subject pertains to small business owners more than they might be aware.
It is remotely related to a couple of topics which I have been creating free Biznik workshops to address for the benefit of unsuspecting newbies in business.
Such topics as: How to avoid being scammed, swindled, or defrauded? and Getting control over your Biz Finances.
I hope you and I can co-host a live event and an online webcast soon to share some of these kinds of tips with Bizniks.
...Howard
I use the network listings the same way as Leila and consider that one of the benefits of Biznik membership.
I try to be vigilant to only accept requests to connect on Biznik to the people that I "like and trust" and for that reason, limit it to those whom I've had some kind of meaningful interaction with.
For those that are in the "know" category that may someday become someone that I "like and trust", I use the bookmark feature to make a note to myself.
Maybe someday we will have a feature that we can "rate" our network connections with a designation of "know, like, trust". I think something like that would make the act of joining another's network more meaningful.
John... So as we can see, there can be implications to who you "join networks" with.
Just a thought. ...Howard
John... and anyone else interested.
I am presently in the learning curve of how to do this myself. I have purchased a tool that will accommodate it. But, I would like to practice a few calls among friends before I "go public".
I would like to invite you and any others to ping me so that we can arrange a few practice calls to help each other learn the best techniques.
Please message me if you are interested. ...Howard
Ben... Selling a tangible product usually requires a demonstration or presentation which proves or shows the benefit of ownership of the item. This is mostly performed after you've discovered the initial interest of the prospective customer in the product. Examples could include: computer, car, house, clothing, etc. Most of these prospective customers come to you and already have a need for your product.
Selling a service, on the other hand, requires more of that "trust factor" between you and the prospective customer because they are relying on YOUR words and mental pictures which you create in their mind of the final benefit they will receive from the commitment to purchase. In this case you are using stories and testimonials of past results rather than demonstration.
Most of these prospective customers have to be sought out by you and do not fully understand that they need your service. Examples of this type would be insurance, marketing services, preventative health care, construction labor intensive services, investment management, etc.
Selling the service or the "intangible" is more difficult and requires more sales ability and skill, therefore it usually commands higher commissions or rewards.
The best paid sales professions are usually a mix of selling both. An example would be technology systems that need analysis, hardware, software, design, configuration, installation, service, and support.
Tony... I think the real key is to get some activity going with Live Event hosting in your local area so that the online connections can grow to the point where friendships are nurtured and eventually referrals are made when people start to really care about each other. ...Howard
The single best "Time-Off" for me was one year that I trusted in my staff to keep the business going while I loaded my wife and 7 kids (?? ages 4-17) into our motorhome as soon as school was out.
We traveled and explored throughout the 11 western United States and didn't return until just before school was to begin again. Almost 3 months of the most fantastic memories that we can cherish forever. My parents joined us with their motorhome for the entire summer and periodically other family members joined with us along the way.
Upon return, my batteries were charged and I went back to work with new enthusiasm. I would recommend this to everyone.
Ben... you are right that selling a service, concept, or an idea is different from selling products and tangible items. You shared some good advice. For those out there that would like a good resource, may I recommend the book: "The New Conceptual Selling", by Stephen E. Heiman.
Gina... Very good advice. You hit the nail right on the head as far as the most important trait a sales person can have is the ability to really Listen. And knowing the right questions to ask is close behind in importance.
Leif... First blush, I like what I see. Whoops, sorry no time to chat right now. I gotta run. My wife thinks this 15 hour workday should end because she wants some attention. Will check back later. ...Howard
For those needing some Free help in selling education I will be hosting a two hour workshop on Practical Selling for Indies next Wednesday.
Thanks for the comment James. Let's get together tomorrow for Lunch at The Columbia Tower Club and have a little BizChat about Selling. ...Howard
What kinds of selling methods do you use to promote your business? What seems to be most effective in your profession?
Is it possible to resurrect this topic? I'm doing a selling workshop next week and would like a little input and new opinions.
