Active listening and asking good questions are basic coaching skills. :) They help to empower people.
To be able to set the boundary (saying no) and be accountable for your life shows the emotional intelligence.
Good sharing. Thanks.

A brand is what you promise to offer to your clients or customers.
Listening and reflecting back to clients are good coaching skills. Sometimes, that's enough to shift one's perspective.
About asking questions, I will explain with an example. When my teen told me she had trouble to focus in school, my conversation with her might be around how to fix it. That’s my agenda because I operated under the emotion of “what I want for her”.
A well-trained coach would put herself out of the picture and ask questions with curiosity. What’s your experience when you focus or can’t focus? What’s the impact? What you want to do with it? What have you tried? Powerful questions not driven by coach’s emotions help a client to think, reflect and get clarity.
When I hire coaches, I would make sure they have coaching training and experience. ICF certified coaches usually have the qualifications. I would also look into their personal growth. A coach loves to learn and can creatively integrate and apply his/her learning would be my first choice.
BTW, you can ask for a sample coaching session to determine if a coach meet your needs.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and questions.
Life coach helps one to discover who he is, what he wants in life, and how to achieve it. Life coach doesn’t solve client’s problems. Instead, life coach helps clients to get answers for their own problems or take actions to achieve their own goals.
In order to help clients to gain clarity and take actions, life coach should be trained for basic coaching skills – listening without judgment; asking questions without agenda and focusing on the clients. It also takes tremendous personal growth work for a life coach to be effective. We can’t focus on others if we don’t trust ourselves. We can’t support our clients if we are not clear.
International Coach Federation (ICF) is an international coaching organization that certifies coaches for their competencies. You can find qualified coaches from this link http://www.coachfederation.org/find-a-coach/
I am always interested in reading articles on Leadership. Using these three dimentions to support leaders to lead teams is an interesting approach.
Thank you for the reminder. I started to fill out my google profile a while ago and didn't finish it. After reading your article, I went back into my profile, finished it and published it.
Fran,
Thank you for introducing the term of “Authentic Trust”.
Authentic trust is a high level of trust. Breaches of trust are seen as part of the process of trusting.
From an emotional intelligence point of view, Ron Shorts pointed out the importance of self awareness on building and sustaining Authentic Trust.
We make meaning from what is happening and create stories of the other. When we are aware of our own thoughts, feelings, stories about others in a mistrust relationship, we have a choice. Choice brings freedom and with it, responsibility.

These 7 questions are good ones for leaders to reflect. Effective communication and characters of leaders play a big part.
One problem I see is that leaders often don’t see themselves as leaders. Many managers think they work for leaders. They bury themselves in daily tasks and feel overwhelmed. They don’t have clarity where the business is at and can’t communicate to their teams effectively. When managers are not stepping up as leaders, the business will have a hard time to strive for success.
have a support structure - friends, family, mentor, and coach.
have clarity on where you are at and have a plan to guide you to where you want to go.
Nina,
Thank you for the acknowledgment.
All,
Bob and I appreciated your openness and trust to make the workshop a win-win! We all learned a lot together. Please apply what you learned in the next month before we meet again!

Thank you for signing up the workshop.
I sent homework to each of you. It would be a more productive workshop for you when you do homework before the workshop.
Looking forward to meeting you on Sat.

Robert,
Thanks for sharing your experience and insights. Our ability to adapt changes and be flexible with our biz models can be enhanced through "actions" and "lessons learned".
I am reading "Flip - How to Turn Everything You Know on Its Head - and Succeed Beyond Your Wildest Imaginings". It also shares similar thoughts and offers good tips.
We grow and our business grows when we have the courage to walk out our comfort zone!
