  • Andrew,

I don't see one man's question can devalues us all. :)

    Ruth,

I want to share my perspective.

I paid more attention to this question - Do you feel that men are disempowered if their boss is a female?

I think worthy or not discussion didn't address this question. Worthness doesn't make one being an empowering boss; male or female.

  • When my client told me they were stressed out, I often asked them those simple questions - do you get enough sleep? do you exercise? do you eat right?

When we take care of ourselves, we have bigger capacity to handle all of the tasks in front of us with positive thoughts and clarity to choose letting go things beyond our control.

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

  • No problem. Thanks for sending the note. I am glad you enjoyed reading the article. Any comment for it?

I got the idea while studing leaders' development stages based on adult development theory. I wanted to explain it in a simple way to show the power of personal development. Did the idea come across clearly?

  • "Making sure someone achieves certain performance levels is managing. Helping them handle problems for themselves is coaching." (from Coaching:The Ten Killer Myths from Harvard Management)

I prefer coaching more than managing since coaching develops a person's potential and will also have positive impact on people's performance.

  • I have close friends who went through bankruptcy. Some recovered and some are recovering. It’s difficult at the time and the experience made them all stronger.

Life is full of bets. Even people working in the office can fail on the bets they make on the investments and cause financial hardship. My neighborhood drug store was recently sold. The new owners are a group of investors with all professionals. They can lose their shirts if the drug store can’t balance the rent and the traffic. They chose to bet.

  • Ondine,

I think the value of this process is to examine carefully on your target market, your client's need you are addressing and your special offer that differentiates you from others. When you are clear about all of these, you will get the brand promise naturally. The goal is not coming up the brand statement quickly. :)

With that said, I invite you to give more thoughts on the principles.

Another thing to mention is that a coach usually teaches you to fish instead of giving the fish to you. :)

Your last statement makes me want to learn Nia from you!

  • Judy,

I will get a copy of the "The Artist's Way" and share my thoughts with you after reading it.

I also enjoy "Made to Stick". It showed in my life while I started to pay attention to marketing. Perfect timing! My next workshop Sell Yourself First is based on the book. We will give a copy of the book away in the workshop.

  • Karen,

Between your special offer and your client's unmet need, could you come up with a brand promise based on Steve MacDonald's principles?

    One example -

The Ritz Carlton promises to employ ladies and gentlemen serving ladies and gentlemen.
