  • I would add health as an area. Maybe you cover that under energy or self.

Eating right, exercising and sleeping enough are all important elements to reserve health and we usually have to make extra effort to keep up with them. :)

  • This article reminds me Dale Carneqie's "How to Win Friends & Influence People".

"The fundamentals" he suggests - speak ill of no man and speak all the good you know of everyone; say "thank you" & talk about what people want and help them get it.

"Way to make people like you" he includes - smile; be happy to see people; draw people out....

Filling a heart is a great expression! Thank you. Brain.

  • Joe and Judy,

Thank you for sharing. Congrats on a fruitful half year. What would be one thing you want to do more in your biz in the other half of the year?

  • One thing I would like to do more is to speak to professional groups. I would reach out to 5 groups in July and see if I can schedule at least one speech by August.

My goal is to speak to 3 groups by the year end. My intention is to promote my leadership coaching business to people has direct reports and want to build their team by clear communication.

If anyone could refer me to a professional group, please send me a referral. Thanks.

  • Leaders do influence corporate culture by their actions. Howard Behar, Former Persident of Starbucks helped establish the Starbucks culture that stresses the importance of people (employees and customers) over profits.

In his book "It's Not About the Coffee", he said "my whole life, I've been driven to learn, grow and lead".

We need more leaders like hm. Coaching leaders is my passion. When I make a difference to a leader, I know many people will benefit from hisher/ growth!

Thank you for writing this article to share your thoughts.

I share the same thought - I am my business. Thank you for joining the thinking process and willing to share. I am still in the process. :)

  • Karrie,

I admire your energy and effort to nurture the conversation and encouragement for people to do more events.

I echo that when we host events, we get to apply what we have learned and be better at it.

  • Leif,

Thank you for the ideas. When I have some free time, I will put my red nose on and click on the link.

If this is my event, I will find some free air time or newspaper space to broadcast it.

  • I am often amazed how much we can learn from a kindergartner. This is a great reminder. Thank you Judy.

  • Kimm,

Thank you for your leadership on this particular legislation. Your effort is deeply appreciated.

I think this is an on going work while coaching becomes such an attractive field for both coaches and clients. When clients need more protection from untrained coaches, legislation will be enforced upon the profession.

    Coaches,

Please make effort to get coaching skills training from an ICF certified school. It's worth the investment for yourself in order to serve your clients.

  • How about bringing red nose bright spirit to this brainstroming?

Let's play it as a creativity game! If BizJam is your product, what would you do to promote it?

I might sell night party as an individual event to get networking going!

  • I think any networking group is a good place to promote BizJam. Anyone belongs to BNI, LeTip? Do you think it's possible to promote BizJam in your group?

  • I appreciate all of the folks working hard to make BizJam happen. Your effort is deeply appreciated.

I want to point out that there is a distinction between “not coming” and “not supporting”. And there is a distinction between “speaking up” and “negative whining”.

I am a volunteer to lead a Leadership Coaching Group. I host monthly meeting for the whole year. I work hard to invite speakers, to promote events, to send out certificates, and to listen to feedback.

When I am tired, I remind myself that it’s about generating and making a difference. I have learned to stop judging - towards myself and others. Life is great when we are positive!

Yes. let's promote BizJam so it's known by the community!

  • I won't be in BizJam since it happens in my work days. I also get to a point(or age) that I can't benefit from taking several courses one after another or from networking by talking to people after people :) You guys have fun!

  • Judy,

I think this is a different conversation. It’s like we are talking about how teachers should be qualified and you raise the concern about bad teachers. Qualification process can’t offer 100% guarantee service and it doesn’t stop us to qualifying our teachers. :)

    Satori,

I am seeing an energy healer. I think it’s harder to qualify healers. But when I want to try Reiki, I will reach out to you since you listed receiving master level of Reiki. To me, that shows integrity to be trained to serve your clients.

I think qualification is important. How much government should be involved is another thing. That’s what this article about. If a profession has full of untrained people, it’s inviting rules from government. I am a promoter of training and self-discipline of the profession.

  • Thank you for sharing the information. I know it has been going on and I haven’t followed it closely. I have been a strong supporter of ICF (International Coaching Federation) for the similar reason. ICF ensures the quality of the coaches by credential requirements of training, recommendations and coaching hours (MCC for 2500 hr coaching, PCC 750 hr and ACC 100 hr). The intention was to establish the profession’s credibility so the government won’t intervene. ICF has 16000+ members in 80+ countries. USA has 8312 members and only 2016 of them are certified coaches. With the rate of coaching field growth, I think ICF effort might not be fast enough.

At the same time, if you consider hiring a coach, make sure to look for an ICF certified coach or a coach trained by an ICF certifed coaching schools. ICF website has the schools' information.

  • I always wonder what kind of people would benefit from the social tips. (True curiosity)

The confident ones think they know what to do and they won’t need tips. The less confident ones think they can use tips and they become more self-conscious because they want to do it "right". Tips really won't help them.

  • Yes! Sharing is generosity and "digital imprint" makes it a win-win!

I think feeling "good enough" about our own articles might be a reason to publish or not. Well. I might have jumped to the conclusion. :)

  • Justin,

Thank you for addressing self-awareness. Our emotions usually are the ones blocking us from move foward. To be in touch with the resistance is to acknowledge the emotions.

    Jen,

Knowing itself is not enough to make us taking actions. It's like we all know about eating less and exercising more and yet, weight-losing industry is still big. Our emotion safety/comfort usually win :)

I like the natural extension concept. It makes writing articles a pleasure instead of work. I can certainly extend my blogs, reflections and deep conversations! It's encouraging! Thanks.

  • I relate to Andrew’s statement about taking an action. It is a vulnerable position with all of the possible responses. And it’s rewarding to get thoughts into words, feel good enough about it and know how many people it reached. I like to get comments on my article so I learn other’s thoughts. I don’t mind repeated topics. I think repetition serves different people at different time in different ways.

  • How interesting you mentioned the effect of being succinct. I also notice my writing is profoundly influenced by working in engineering field for the last 25 years.

Being succinct is my strenght and weakness. I am workin harder to put in more context in my writing and also make my writing more personal.

  • Just noticed this discussion. I was suggesting Lara about tele-event a few days ago.

The current event creation page could work. We could put "telephone" on the "venue" and distribute a phone nubmer before the event through RSVP.

It will be like any other event - a place and a time to meet!

I think tele-networking will give biznik a big lift!
