  • People have different personalities and different ways of networking. I think it's generous to share what works for us and it's more generous not to place judgement towards other's approach.

I attended networking events that fit my schedule. I believe networking is not only to meet the people, but also their associates. Each of us has more than 200 close associates in average. That's the network we bring into a networking event and that's the capacity we encounter with everyone in the event.

I don't plan what to say in advance since that's not my nature. I listen. I interact and I learn.

Do I craft my marketing message so it's precise and clear? You bet. That's one of the workshops I lead. I think it's important when I have a chance to say what I do and people get the message in a couple of minutes.

  • Rachel,

It's awesome that you were nervous and you jumped in.

As a type 7 in Ennegram (optimistic, versatile, and spontaneous), I jump in and go with the flow easily.

My challenge is that I can drop the task in hand or I can over commit myself. I am watching myself not to get too execited when opportunities are presented.

And, indeed, spontaneity brought me many greaceful rewards!

  • Yes. Kaya,

I see it as a presentation of our inner quality. The presentation will show up in our service and product. The presentation is unique for each of us. And when we see it clearly, we can market our service and product with ease.

  • I believe we all have a special gift to offer and no one can compete with us on that special offer. In that sense, my peer coaches are my community and inspiration.

And, I believe we are in competition to show up so our special gift is noticed by our potential clients. I view the competition as a positive move that provides choices to our clients and provides motivation for us to grow.

Think about it. If google doesn't advertise a special offer, yahoo users might continue to use yahoo and some needs might not be met. Google will advertise its offers and so will yahoo. As consumers, we get to choose. At the same time, they might see each other as a potential partner. :)

  • Thank you for making this article as a homework for your lunch networking today. I didn't know the article existed. :)

This article reminded me the book "25 Ways to Win with People" by John Maxwell. I like the book.

I enjoy reading your article. Thanks for sharing.

  • I like "so what" question too. So I asked myself - so what if my clients gain clarity and vision from my coaching?

Clarity and vision could be circumstantial and could be at different level depends where we are in the personal growth journey.

    I am pondering....

Thank everyone for adding your thoughts into the conversation. It's quite fun to hear from you and brainstrom with you.

  • Well said. Mark. I continue to ponder too. I might come up with a different answer later. :)

I picked up a book "It's Not About The Coffee" by Former Persident of Starbucks. So what has Starbuscks been offering under his leadership and became so successful? See my most recent blog

  • Certainly would love to get a big and free event place. I say 37. If no one gets it, may I have it? :)

  • Wayne,

Thank you for using plain English to explain the technology. Since I have such a passion towards Web 2.0. I would like to add some context for non-technical folks.

When we use Word in our PC desktop/laptop, we are using an application (Word) designed for the desktop/laptop.

When we use internet, we are using web. We can browse websites to get information. Web applications are developed for the needs of the web users.

Web 2.0 transforms a collection of websites into a platform(like a huge computer). Web 2.0 applications replace desktop applications for a lot of web users.

So instead of using Word, you might use Google Docs that is a web based word processor and spreadsheet and it allows users to collaborate on line. You can work on your article on any desktop/laptop if you use a web based word processor and have connection to the web.

Most of the web 2.0 services/applications are free.

Web 2.0 is an amazing combination of independence and relationships.

  • "How helpful?" is relative to readers' preference and understanding of the topic. Rating based on it is subjective. And it does provide some guidance to the writer if no one abuses it.

I noticed there were more viewers than voters. I wonder if more people vote, would a few abusive ratings make any difference?

Simple "I like it" might work. We can give it a try.

  • I love the dare. They are questions asked by most of the coaches. :)

I just reached my goal that I had for the last three years. I coached 750 hours with 25+ clients. Therefore, I was certified by the International Coach Federation as a Professional Certified Coach.

Three years ago, I was short of 600 hours. I had my yearly goal of 200-hour coaching and have been on top of my goals. I think SMART model is a good way to design goals and action plans. SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely.

I continue to use the model for 2008 goal setting and it works for me.

Setting goals is a very important element for a successful business. And it's not too late. It's only April! :)

  • Thank you for the acknowledgement. Glad to hear you shared the same thoughts. What would be one thing you want to practice with your body or mind? After Pamela's workshop, I decided to listen more attentively and look into eyes to practice my connection with one person a day.

  • Lori, Thank you for sharing your example map with us. It stimulated my thoughts. I named a child node my treasure box for future projects I did figure out a few more of them through yesterday's work. Today, I downloaded a free mindmapping tool to build my map. The tool is very easy to use but I don't like the layout. I bought Inspriation a while ago. I will give that a try.

  • I have been thinking of the most important question Jack proposed - “How do I make my business so much FUN that my employees...and customers, can’t wait for Monday morning?”

I think it’s a great idea to have fun in business. I also think it depends on the type of the business we are in. To me, personal or business development is fun since that’s my passion. I can make the learning process fun to attract clients. To the end, my clients are the ones doing the work. They will need passion and patience to go through the process so that they can grow themselves and their business. The process will have fun part and not fun part. That’s the wholeness of the process and the magic of polarity. The not-fun part is as important as the fun part since it makes the fun part more fun!

  • Kelleen,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and the book. I will check the book out. The leader I am at work is to create team work to accomplish tasks. It takes a lot of listening, following and giving credits to the team members. Team works well when situational leaders take turn to be in charge and others can follow and cooperate. Learning to be a follower is critical!

  • Molly,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the topic. It seems like there is a story connecting the sliding scales with certain drives and certain results. I will have to chew on them before I am convinced. :)

  • I joined Biznik last year and sat on the sideline for a while since I was occupied by a training. When I have time for biznik, I enjoy the freedom of making connections, hosting events and being self expressed. Besides, I am a biz coach. This is a quite a biz world to learn everyone's biz. :)

  • I think there is a computer algorithm to calculate the ranking with all of the parmeters and their weights. Can we really judge the ranking by perceptions? I truely doubt about it.

I would suggest a survey on the ranking parameters and weights once for while so we get a reading from the community.

Personally, I really don’t pay so much attention to my rank. I pay more attention to how many people checking out my profile and my website. I am not sure ranking and traffic to my profile/website are directly related and I do know hosting event does bring traffic to my profile.

Besides, I would rather do the things I love to do instead of doing the things important for a higher rank. Do you have a purpose to be in biznik? What would that be? I will start another talk with the inquiry.
