  • This is an excellent, concise list of must-do's for hosting any event. For anyone who has not yet hosted an event, I highly recommend following these 16 steps. Those who have hosted events, keep these tactics close!

The more personal connections you make, the more likely you are to meet your event success expectations. Hitting specific points, charging a reasonable fee and keeping the mystery will help your attendees understand the value of their commitment to your event. Focusing on how each person can contribute to the event also gives you a broader perspective of who your target audience is.

Thank you Karrie for taking the time to give us pro insight on how to make our attrition rates shrink down closer to zero!

  • Hi Karen! Thank you so much for the invite, but I'm planning on being in Seattle at that time. I have never been to Long Island City and would love to check it out though! Cheers : ) ~Ingrid

  • Hi Jamie & fellow New Yorkers!

I'm really glad to see that you are reaching out on here -- I was an event host in Seattle and moved out here last September. Many times I thought about hosting another event, but I got a little shy to do it all alone. It seems like there is more NY activity now!

The spring time is totally motivating, as well as your post! I would love to bring the Biznik vibe to the offline community here in NYC. Now seems like a great time to start.

I will plan on making it to Ilise's event (if there's still room!) and would love to take any suggestions on where to have our initial happy hour. Since it's so beautiful out lately, maybe a Biznik picnic at the park would be in order(?)

I find that happy hour in a mellow atmosphere with beverages and nibbles is a great way to put yourself out there. A positive and community-oriented attitude is key and Free is every indie's favorite word (unless you are renting out space and/or providing goods/services). Also, planning the event at least a couple weeks in advance gives just enough time to get the word on the street.

Thanks Lara for bringing this discussion to my attention! I can't wait to meet fellow New York artists and tech-geeks ;D

    ~Ingrid

  • TalkShoe.com is free, good for online conference calls. Just tried it out yesterday.... you can also record the conversation/meeting for free.

    http://www.talkshoe.com

Google released their new app Google Presentation, although it needs further testing/development. However, you can create a presentation, share, invite others, publish it and meet up. One person is the presenter, the audience follows and can see everything they're doing. Simultaneous chatting is available on this interface.

Kevin Selkowitz could also give you some good advice based on what exactly your client needs to do with the software.

  • Due the amount of information that I have to sift through, as well as pondering the thoughtful questions that people have asked me, I'm just going to share the LinkedIn responses of the same question. Everyone has been super helpful in pushing me to figure out what I want to provide, who I want to reach and how I want to do it! Thanks a million :)

  • Hey Susan and Bryan!

Thank you so much for your RSVP, this session will be great. My colleague Marilee is focused on impeccable communication for business and is extremely knowledgeable in SEO and SEM. Marilee is responsible for my website and I've learned so much from her, she always keeps me in check :)

I've noticed more real estate agents signing up on Biznik, very cool! I met with Dominic Canterbury yesterday and he's been hosting events about strategic marketing in the real estate industry. Keep an eye out for his events, I bet both of you would get a lot out of hearing him talk!

    Cheers, ingr!d

  • Thanks for the recommendations, Lara. I know that Ken Gronvold at RE/MAX in Ballard is interested in having a book club AND happy hour at the Hi-Life every Friday starting ___________ (Ken are you listening?)

I'm focused on education with both RE/MAX and ingr!dStyle, mostly because I find that I learn more about life by presenting useful information to others. It's also a great feeling to be a facilitator of events regarding the topics I mentioned in the post, as well as with art, performance and musical projects. "Multimedia" has become my secret [or not so secret!] addiction...

It looks like I was in a rush to post this afternoon, did I event conclude what a Biznik event means to me?! (not to mention other errs)

A Biznik event means the opportunity to raise money in the name of developing independent businesses.

In this case, the message is supporting entrepreneurs in the arts who use and support sites like Biznik. I hope that the creative minds on this network (and others!) will unite in the name of a global art community (on AND off line). I strongly believe that several artists (emerging AND established) lack sufficient guidance in seeking the support, tools and resources they need in order to make their wildest dreams come true.

This weekend, I would be ESPECIALLY tickled to meet individuals and groups interested in vaudeville, circus, cabaret, dance and multimedia performance. Please contact me if you are available on Sunday around 7:00 p.m. for spontaneous performance in SoDo (street and stage) with the March Fourth Marching Band... musical madness, burlesque, boylesque, wine, nibbles and non-stop dance party at the Fenix to follow... your best costume preferred... eeek!!

ps. There is also the opportunity for visual artists to hang their work for the evening, brick wall space for up to 6 artists, three pieces each.

  • Hey guys,

This sounds great, I'd love to host a workshop at the Forum Center. We've got room for about 25 people, a conference table, wireless and a large projection screen. I am not an expert at with keywords or adwords, just learning bits at a time. Today I was looking at what steps I need to take next, so this topic caught my eye.

Raina, would you like to help organize it? We should get a couple of people who are experienced (Barry are you game?) and create a plan of action to plough through the material. I'm hosting two blogging classes coming up, a beginner one a week from today and an intermediate one on the following Wednesday the 25.

I'd say this would be best to schedule during the first week of May... that would give us plenty of time to get everything ready. Excited to hear what you guys think.

  • Hey everyone! Thanks for all your support, this will be a wild time!

FYI, please note that I am also accepting offline RSVP's and this class currently has 19 RSVP's total.

No worries, the Forum Center can hold more than 20 people. There are plenty of comfy chairs on the sidelines, minus the tabletop for those of you bringing laptops...

First come, first served. There are two parking lots out in front of the building and street parking.

  • Thanks for the comment, Ronald! You have been blogging for longer than I have, and it's looks great! I encourage the attendees to take a peek...

Nice format, the images take on an illustrative form and your writing is short, sweet and engaging. It would be great to have you in a class next time.

As far as upgrading your blog, I would recommend WordPress.com, especially if you have some knowledge of HTML, CSS, etc. From what I've read, MovableType has some programming issues, even their front page has some CSS issues. Let me know what you find out!

Have a wonderful time in France & Germany :-)
