What Iskra does
I am a diverse artist with a foot in two worlds. I have my own business creating custom lettering design and illustration for advertising, book covers, film titles and corporate identity. With clients world wide including DreamWorks, American Express, Estee Lauder and most of the major publishers in New York I keep pretty busy. I work with real, tactile materials like ink and paint and paper, and then scan and email the work wherever it needs to go. Farewell FedEx guy, we miss you!
My other world, and at times it is otherworldly, is fine art. I work in several media, but am currently doing drawings in powdered pigment and water. They resemble lithographs or etchings, and evoke landscape, memory and dreams. I have recently had solo shows in Ballard and Greenwood, and was part of the "What Does Compassion Look Like?" exhibit at Art Exchange Gallery.
I hope you will visit my websites. At Iskradesign.com you will find a wide range of work in letterform design and illustration. At Iskrafineart.com you will find my most recent prints and drawings, and essays on the garden, politics and other sources of inspiration.
What does Iskra need?
I am looking for art directors, designers and business owners who have an appreciation for letterforms, iconography and illustration. Right now I have a special interest in icons and animation, and would love to collaborate with someone who designs Flash ads for the web. A lot of web advertising looks like stock or imitations of stock, and my various illustration and icon styles offer a lively and custom alternative.
I also would like to find a venue to exhibit my drawing series "What Does Heaven Look Like?" which can be seen at http://www.iskrafineart.com .
Education
BFA, University of Washington
Experience
I have been working in the lettering arts and design for nearly three decades. I have broad experience designing custom cover lettering for books, greeting cards (15 years of card designs for Papyrus) and corporate identity. I have created the mast head typography for the Seattle Times, alphabets for Cuervo Gold, Betty Crocker and PBS, book covers for Clive Barker, Hilary Duff and Kitty Kelly, and product identities for companies including Fresh Express, Gardenburger, and Elizabeth Arden.
