Good points, Sarah. Emotional connection is so important. Articulating your vision helps the donor become involved and loyal. As a speech coach, I'm often called upon to work with key players on their communication skills. In some organizations, particularly with the life sciences, researchers and medical personnel would rather stay out of the public eye. But the donors want to hear from the people that are doing the work. I often wonder if some of the theaters and arts organizations had their actors and musicians call or approach donors if they would do better than the paid workers with a script. Of course, they can't drop a rehearsal to make some phone calls. Tough times all over the country and it's difficult to chose - from the donor's standpoint - who is neediest. Jan

Provocative title, Beth. Good ideas and writing.There are those gloomy, rainy days in Seattle when one could stay at home or in front of the computer. We need to get out there and see who else is braving the weather and the economy and find ways to support one another. Yesterday I had my own agenda and drove 7 hours to meet with someone. I ended up finding her gone, the business sold the day before and a situation with the new owner where instead I offered my help. As I left, the woman asked for a business card as her husband's business could use my services. One never knows! And do schedule a "spa" day for yourself. Jan

Thanks Stacy for the information and reminders the need for ongoing sales promotion. I'm working on a 3rd edition of a book but my publisher went out of business. I will craft it as an e-book, put it on my website and hope to get international sales. but I also want to get it on Amazon. Any reason for not mentioning other sites?
