What John does
I am a lawyer, but my law practice draws on my years of business experience to help creative businesses and individuals maximize the profit potential of their intellectual property. I represent both content owners and consumers of content, and I handle business transactions as well as infringement disputes relating to copyright and trademark rights.
While some matters call for a "quick fix," I strongly believe in educating my clients about their rights and duties under the law so that we can work together to develop policies and practices that will sustain their endeavors over time. My philosophy includes a three-pronged approach to effective business. Those prongs are:
(1) Protect your assets. I can help you develop processes that utilize effective legal, technological, and procedural tools to safeguard your intellectual property and other assets. In the event that you do experience the theft or piracy of your intellectual property, I can help you detect infringement and recover fees for unauthorized use.
(2) Protect yourself. Businesses both small and large must navigate a myriad of laws in areas such as intellectual property, customer privacy, and data protection. On top of the statutory requirements, vendors such as banks, credit card processors, internet service providers, and others often impose contractual duties that, if breached, can result in a serious loss of service and business. I can help ensure your compliance with your legal and contractual obligations to avoid costly and disruptive disputes. And when disputes do arise, I can help minimize their impact on your business operations and work towards a quick and effective resolution wherever possible.
(3) Innovate to expand your market. Today's economy demands that businesses constantly innovate to satisfy changing market conditions and evolving customer expectations. But innovation, by its nature, entails a certain amount of risk. I can help you develop sales, marketing, and technology plans that don't run afoul of important laws and regulations without stifling the innovative spirit that is necessary for your business to thrive.
I offer several services on a flat-rate basis, and handle more complex issues at a reasonable hourly rate. Contact me at (206) 903-8182 or email me to learn how I can help your business succeed.
