"The Principles & Practices of Web Shui"

Drop a pebble in a pond...

Careful preplanning and site architecture establishes the foundation for any successful site design.

A simple flow chart or outline can easily establish the site's layout. Begin with the site's home page and work down through the primary, secondary and subsequent sections, when appropriate.

The Art of War...

Know your audiences and create appropriate content for the site that benefits the visitors.

Preview similar web sites to determine what components of these sites you like and dislike. Also consider the way you want the information delivered, using Flash Animation, forms, tables, scrolling tickers, etc.

Float like a butterfly...

Easy 3-click navigation enables visitors to move through your site, like a butterfly.

A consistent menu interface gives the visitor easy access to the wealth of information within the site. A site map is also an effective tool to enhance the site and make it easier to navigate. Minimal scrolling within a page is preferred and makes it more user friendly.

The Way is Power...

Create content that is clear and concise.

Eye candy is far more effective than long wordy dissertations.

Effective communication and delivery of your message is essential. Visitors will stay or return to do business if you give them what they want. Deliver the most important information first and keep it brief.

Feel the need for speed...

Fast loading sites are always preferred over slower loading sites.

Page loading speed can make or break a successful web design. Dial-up Internet access users make up a large percentage of users who have yet to graduate to faster broadband access speeds, so it is essential that your pages load fast enough to keep their attention.
