  • Its hard not to get discouraged Jack. But as Anthony said above, you just can't take it personally.

  • I think more small businesses would succeed if "conscious ownership" were employed. Sometimes it is easier to say "the marketplace" is to blame - its just not true in most cases, it is up to us - the small business owner - to make our businesses work, regardless of market conditions. And we can do it if we are willing to consistently examine our work, our marketing efforts, and our businesses as a whole. No excuses! Thank you for this.

  • This is an excellent article. All important points that should be taken to heart by anyone who owns or manages a business. The part that resonates with me most is the same as the title - you can't be everything to everyone - focusing on your USP is vital to success. Thanks for this!

  • Its very true that you must exude confidence when talking to prospective clients. Even a moment of wavering can give them a bad feeling and jeopardize the job. Great article. Thanks.

  • Face to face networking is tough for many people (me included!), so thanks for laying out the how-to's so succinctly. You're absolutely right about it being a skill you need to practice. And follow-up is key. Great post!

  • Excellent and easy advice. I wholeheartedly endorse the PDF conversion to ensure everyone who sees your document, sees it as you intended. And many non-designers don't understand how critical 300 DPI is for all images. It is one of the keys to creating professional-looking materials. Great post!

  • Great article. Another good point is to always just go in being yourself. As you point out - your own energy is not always the same, so that makes your tone and vibe different if you just relax and be whoever you are at that moment.

  • Great article Naomi. I've been using Twitter for sometime now, and am just scratching the surface of how it can be useful. Your article clarified quite a few things for me!

  • As a freelancer, I don't do much volume of on line payments, but I do have a few clients who prefer to pay by credit card. I find PayPal to be my best option at this point. I pass a portion of the PayPal fee on to my clients who pay by credit card as a convenience/processing fee, and they don't have a problem with that at all.

A bank or other MSP doesn't make sense for the amount of CC business I currently do because of the monthly fees. However, if I had a bigger volume of credit card payers, I can see the benefits of going with an MSP.
