Are you looking for a non-profit to support?
You could go to the City of Seattle website, or United Way of King County's websites, but I'd like to direct you to two that are non-political and everyone can support.
I hope to be joining the Friends of the Cedar River Watershed next month. The Seattle area gets most of its drinking water from the Cedar River, plus its a habitat for much of our wildlife. If you might be interested in volunteering for one of their many community projects or to join their board of directors, send an email to info@cedarriver.org.
If you have not heard of PROVAIL yet, I urge you to go to their website at www.provail.org. They provide a whole array of services to kids and adults who have disabilities -- physical and developmental. At PROVAIL people can get speech and occupational therapy, assistive technology solutions to their daily or work-related needs, dental care, supports that help even severely disabled people find and keep real jobs, and around-the-clock supports so that adults with developmental disabilities can live in their own homes instead of a nursing home or state institution. There are so many people in Washington who need their services; if you don't know someone directly who is impacted by a disability, you know someone who does.
I hope you'll check one of these out. If you do, would you let me know?
Thanks,
Judy
