  • I COMPLETELY agree with your article...the web has broadened people's minds, expanded the realm of opportunities...but on the flip side has CHEAPENED many industries. I love to meet and network, but as you said, there are many 'tire kickers' out there! Many of us value FREE information coming from a seasoned professional...and I'm one that WOULD pay for workshops of value..from $10 to $500, depending on the value to my business!

  • John,

This article is a great eye-opener for newer businesses that might need to take a better look at their record-keeping practices and home-office spaces. I'm in that boat where I'll soon have employees and will be contracting people for a variety of jobs. Thank you for the useful information!

  • Had a great time...reeeeally wished there would have been a wider variance of topics in the 'lectures'. My most favorite activity by FAR was Leif's..and for good reason, inspiration led to energy, energy led to excitement, excitement led to ideas, ideas led to growth of knowledge within our groups.

Great job with the organization, event location, and structure! Loved the networking capabilities of having 225 northwest local indies in the same place!

  • Fun article...and VERY 'real-time' stuff!

I've had everything you mentioned happen in my presence at a couple recent networking events where I internally said to myself, "What the heck was this/these people thinking!!" On a couple occasions the bill as split evenly but the charge was more than everyone expected (which should have been made aware to the group prior to since the bill was nearly $10 above anyone's check) and one gal made it clear she was 'cheap' and 'frugal' to the point that the entire group immediately took notice - myself nearly in jaw-dropping fashion as I never see this in my industry.

At another event, passing business cards was like passing random pieces of excess paper around the table. Without a personal connection or absolute professiona need, I hardly even find use to pass out my business card...knowing full well I am wasting paper. Instead, I choose to make strong personal connections before even thinking about sharing contact cards.

Fun article...just made me laugh! Just because people have a laptop and joined an 'ONLINE' social networking group (something that didn't exist 2-3 years ago), they think passing cards out is the way to go...boy do these people have a looooonnnng way to go!!

  • Well thought out and delivered article. I truly know what you're talking about throughout the entire piece, as I can relate in many fashions. I deal in a specialized industry and with so much emphasis on building close relationships, sometimes that extra 'personal' approach can be lost in a sea of emailing, messages and simple invites...when years ago a formal invite and in-person invitation to special events was commonplace.

  • Great comments by Neil - the latter slogan had me laughing a bit!

    Allow me to summarize

Business Focus: Leading rigorous treks and expeditions through Himalayan regions such as India, Nepal, Tibet, and Bhutan regions.

    Position: Expert-level Himalayan Guide

    Website: www.himalayansherpa.com

General Slogan: "Bring your backpack...and maybe a small lunch!" (comedic) or "Learn what 'The Sky's the Limit' really means!" (inspirational) or "Let's go for a walk in the clouds!" (simple)

Mission Statement: Consider this in 2-3 sentences max.

Target Market: Who are you looking to focus on attracting? Different demographics are inspired differently, especially through words and images.

I used to sit around with some creative types at Nike, Brooks and several event marketing companies. Saw your posting and thought I'd offer my two cents!

  • Welcome to Biznik!

A close friend of mine is actually going to be seeking counsel for a custody hearing (of a date to be determined). She was just served last week and her ex-husband is really just trying to stir up trouble for her since his income can afford counsel and she cannot. The facts stipulated in the served documents are somewhat 'inflated' and in some ways 'false'.

She really cannot afford counsel...if she is to continue to pay her bills. How should she handle this?
