welcome! biznik is the perfect place for a creative soul like yourself. looking forward to seeing you around.
wow, the mistakes i made upon startup are so numerous i think it might take days to count them.
but i am so much happy on this path(in spite of its intense, ongoing difficulty) than i ever have been before. what i have learned is, it's better to be out here making mistakes than doing nothing.
owning a biz really changes your outlook and makes me grow. i have acquaintances who hang out at the bar two doors down from my shop. they always try to get me to come hang out with them. ya' know sometimes i even do it, but then i get so bored watching folks in their resouces down the toilet as a lifestyle that i get sick and leave. what do i find fun now? writing blog posts, planning improvements on my website, and generally fighting to raise my visibility in the might G. everyone buys flowers online these days, so rather than whining about that..i am having a blast figuring out how BiZi Bee can become Seattle's online florist of choice.
ok so i bookmarked you and i'll add you to my digg, technorati and so forth. feel free to visit bizibeefloral.com and do the same for me.
here let me help.. Click here for Donna's blog
now that it's live i'll check it out. word to the wise, if you really want a blog with punch...forget about a free wordpress hosted account and upgrade yourself to server installed version. i can get you web hosting for free for three months and 50$ a year thereafter. 10$ a year will let you own a domain name that you like.. the webhost will set up wordpress for you and then you are in control.
server installed blogs pop way better in google anyway.
i take term "indie" to mean those who are attracted to making their own path and having many options in life and biz. basically, it we're the folks who take the red pill, much as Neo did in "The Matrix."
i also know an affordable contractor who could patch the fence and the house. ya know where to find me if you want a number. just
g,
check out one of our brides to be: Laura Palmer. she's super nice and her office isn't too terribly far from you.
i am about to implement WP ecommerce .. i'll let you know how it goes. if you go to their site they have some example carts up.
you can get much more SEO or user friendly than wordpress in my opinion. if you already have a wordpress site, getting it working is as easy as dropping it under your plug-in folder.
two things i love: listening to NPR and Biznik. they go together perfectly because they are two of the few places in the information world where you can experience the soul of fellow human beings without swallowing a bunch of commercial crap and hype.
welcome to biznik!
neat that you are in the wedding biz too. love to hear all about your personal experiences as it relates to the wedding industry. how bout we start with: what was your wedding like?
it's a great discussion thread on this very subject, except from a more personal viewpoint.
i wonder if mr. quickbooks has an opinion on this..keith, where are you?
fresh outlooks, new vantage points..these only come from climbing new challenges. and these things are essential i would imagine in a creative field such as yours karl.
good on you for putting the word out that you are getting ready to spread your wings and soar.
here's to seeing Biznik blossom!
for any needing a new sign or any digital graphics, car wraps and such i highly recommend John Masterson from seattlewrapics.com. his website is still under construction, so there aren't many pics of his work up yet. however, i can attest firsthand that he does a great job. he printed the BiZi Bee Floral signs out in front of my shop. with over 30 years experience he won't steer you wrong.
well the good news is tax law should be a federal thing which means you can help people all over this beautiful country of ours.:)
we like cartoon characters around here. giannina silverman did a great job when she made our bee logo. we wanted something approachable but we also wanted to convey that we can do high end floral arrangements too. i'll have to go look at your characters now.
julian,
any relation to the folks who started h&r block? hahaha..
hey, i havent seen the uncle fred ads. where do you run those?
for heather and i, the fun is in participating in the pivotal moments of people's lives. i live for the smiles, looks of surprise, and yes even the tears. what we do makes us feel so alive. i cant think of anything more fun than that.
just
ya know, a lot of the creative types around here work from home. while increasing the downtown business core's growth might be important to you especially for service business.. maybe what you guys actually need over there is more web/creative folk who make decent dough. lure them out there by highlighting in your marketing the lower cost of living and the higher quality of life. if you land enough of them, they'll want to spend their money locally which would go a long way towards sustaining the downtown core you wish to create.
boning up transportation services never hurts if you wish to attract people. especially, with 4 dollar a gallon gas, and the concern over carbon emissions perhaps to address these issues the city could even offer a special shuttle service for those who have to make a physical commute..some kind of van pool or something geared towards those in high tech fields. heck, you could even install sprint evdo or clearwire in it and make it a rolling wifi hotspot so they could start working on their way in.
apparently, so do folks. we just did a really nice wedding for a filipino. i love seeing how couples celebrate love across cultures. being a part of that makes us feel very lucky as in deepens our connection to humanity.
looks like a great place, and no doubt you have a great biz name..almost as good as your real name.:) course, as we both share the moniker "Justin" i can relate better than must on how well you must like it.
have to come visit soon to check out your cafe. in fact i have a delivery down that way today. maybe i can pop in. have a great day!
