  • i personally wouldn't object if the algorithm gave more visibility to those with a higher historical activity than it currently does.

  • i would love to be able send messages with links. is that possible currently?

  • interesting idea John. It has value. Unfortunately, until Biznik gets monetized well beyond where it is currently, i suspect this one will sit on the back burner.

Not saying i have any inside knowledge here, but it's clear to me that biznik is not facebook and hasn't been valued at billions of dollars by the likes of Microsoft.

My bet is that if it doesn't provide some kind of big boost in core site functionality or social functionality then it's not going to be a priority for Biznik. Course, Dan is welcome to correct me if i am wrong.

If any one was smart enough to figure out how to do this type of thing on a shoe string, it would be Barry Hurd. Comments Barry?

  • keith,

click here to create a new event

for future reference the button is on the mid far right of your screen when looking under events.

that puts it squarely in the dead zone from a web page eyeball perspective. According to Scott Brinkerhoff, the eye moves from high left to lower right on a web page. so don't feel bad.

  • well, i for one am glad we could all have this discussion. I am going to add to my agenda in the near term a directive to get the email side of my business/life into a more manageable position.

currently, i use hotmail(which i hate) and gmail(which seems a lot better). one thing that i need to do is get my email address changed to be more consistent with my business branding..ie justin@bizibeefloral.com rather justin@gmail or hotmail.

on the back end of it, i think i need to figure out how to do what dan and barry do which is manage mail using server tech. in fact, i really want to learn more about IMAP which in theory allows you to manage your mail from all your computers and mobile devices simultaneously in real time.

lastly, i think i am going to have to make some of howard's events. he has had some good ones on business etiquette and i think even though i have been in biz for two years..i have a long way to go in this area. i can be such an overexuberant puppie dog sometimes.

Nancy, thanks for having the class to contact me personally. i just love ya so much i wouldn't ever want to do anything to lose you as a friend and colleague. you are super sweet. anyone that hasn't yet met her is missing out. just don't spam her or she'll kick your ass!

  • wow heather p. that's a neat story. so how long ago did this wedding in seattle happen? is that couple still together?

Posted Mar 30, 2008 What was your wedding like? by Heather Ziegler
  • this is my fault. i'll own this. i was the offending party here. i sent out an email blast to my friends and acquaintances regarding my blog post The BiZi Bee Story. the intent wasn't to advertise.

Nancy, i sincerely value you as a person, and i promise to only send you such an email cingularly. do i need to ask first?

i was trying to share my heartfelt story. if you were one of the people who got this, and you weren't ok with me doing this, please contact me and let me know. Nancy already has.

in the future, if i ever send out any other bulk mail, i'll do it using the bcc method. while i am a lot smarter netwise than i was when i first got here almost two years ago...obvously i still have much to learn about e-etiquette. i had a small whimper of voice wondering what the best way to go about it was. however, at 12:30 in morning after working hard on developing this story for 3 weeks my exuberant side won the day. not making an excuse, just sharing what happened.

my sincerest apologies to any who were effected.

are you going to be checking out any events in the near future?

  • i am feeling it no doubt. sales are off a bit. what we are doing right now is trying to exploit the extra time and labor resource from the downturn. first we need to identify new opportunities, plan to capture them and execute making adjustments as we go.

business works in cycles. a trough just gives you a change to make the next peak higher in my opinion.

  • one of the coolest weddings i have ever been to was held by one of our friends Sharon..It was in Kingston. I think that one had some wet moments as well, but it was warm, quaint, and refreshing in spite of it all.

i guess the fact that i enjoyed it enough to remember it almost 5 years later proves that even guys can enjoy going to weddings(even dry ones)..

of course maybe what i enjoyed most is seeing how happy the bride was with her flowers. of course, we all know who designed them.:) don't we heather?

  • feature article status for paying members seems to make sense to me for us as paying members.

however, my bet is that biznik is being configured now to reward maximum content generation because the content generated on the site will help drive more web traffic here while also raising the odds that what's generated is worth something. in fact, all articles written in Learn are the property of Biznik. Therefore, if the articles begin to pile up and they of a high enough quality they can then begin to sell them to folks outside the community? If that's the case, seems uncannily similiar to a suggestion that i made to Dan back last summer as to a way Biznik could make money.:) guess one day i am going to have to start charging consulting fees..

please clarify what you mean by "ill concieved" green economy".. i'd love to hear more on your point of view on this.

  • i like events. that said, i sometimes find that work takes precedance. that's what i love about biznik..it's a la carte.

  • i for one have always spoken my mind, here or anywhere else. sometimes i have generated quite a bit of static over it, and sometimes i have regretted the outcomes generated by my own urge to share my point of view.

i can't think of any place i have been able to truly let express every side of who i am. seems like one has to find several places that match our respective facets. home is the only place where one can let it all hang out, and if you share that space with others then you have to consider how your actions and/or words make them feel.

only inside my own self can i be truly honest in every respect. unfortunately, having the freedom to be honest isn't enough. one still has to have the courage to face the things we wish not to see.

could it be that there is some internal dissonance that is seeking expression dearest Sierra? if so, you know i am here in this community that i sometimes find myself at odds with. Thanks to Biznik, you know where to find me, and if you are the only genuine connection i've made here then being here has been worth it.

    my two cents, just

  • this thread is really relevant in the era of web 2.0, real time website updates, and blogs. seems like every time i read a post, or web copy i've recently written some error i didn't see before manifests.

even happens on copy i think i've thoroughly vetted. things have gotten better lately since i found a great person to review my copy. just goes to show you two eyes are better than one.:)

  • for some reason this thread brought me back to a seminar i went to 10 years back..

i was in the car biz at the time..i was on a selling streak like none i had ever had before. i was breaking sales records...then they sent me to a Tony Robbins seminar. i had a great time..i whooped! i hollered..and i thought i learned a lot..but then i got back to the dealership and proceeded to get into the deepest slump i had ever encountered before that time.

i don't know how well my sharing this actually fits in this particular thread.. but for some reason i was compelled to recall this.

do you think it's possible to be exposed to great info, but then it takes time for it to sink in before you learn to use it correctly? i've always wondered why that happened to me.

  • that is a fascinating point Barry. Seems like many are preferring the safety presenting a structured article over the free flowing and sometimes pointed interaction that occurs here in Biztalk.

gotta wonder if this trend persists how long Biznik will be able to persist in classifying itself as a "social" network.:)
