  • Event listing to multiple groups?

Just sent this to Christian in a PM, but wanted to put this out there to see if others have comments to share...

I started the Cap Hill Group and posted a Walk and Talk event there. People like this idea so much I was encouraged to start a Walk and Talk Events Group--Sounds like people want to do these events all over town now!

Now, though, if I post a Walk and Talk event on Cap Hill, I will want it to show up on both the Walk and Talk Group page AND on the Cap Hill Group page without just posting a link to it as people often miss those in threads.

Can we post an event on multiple group pages? I don't want EVERY Cap Hill Event to show up on the Walk and Talk, or vice versa, so the request to subscribe one group to another group's events won't work--I've read that somewhere on here. But can we post to more than one group if we are members of both groups somehow?

This would be excellent! I think the key will be to make sure that people are not abusing this and spamming with events. I would only multiple post if it was truly relevant to the other group and made sense. Maybe you could monitor this the same way you do with the at-large event posting from group events.

Maybe over time people who prove they are not spammers can automatically be able to send to more than one group or to the at-large list?

Thanks for your consideration on this.

  • What events do you want in Austin?

I'll be coming to Austin again in April 09 and would like to host an event. I'd love to hear from Austin bizniks about what kind of events you'd most enjoy:

casual party/mixer to just get to know each other?

workshop that I could teach on a specific small business topic?

how to use biznik to the fullest?

Let me know what you think!

  • Hidden Treasures on the Hill

What are those lesser known spots on the hill that you have discovered?

One of mine is Pepé's Garden on 13th, just south of Republican on the west side of the street. One of the rare undeveloped spots that is not owned by the city. One man cares for this garden. A great place to get away and calm your mind in the spring and summer when everything is blooming. It's a quiet, beautiful walking destination when you've been sitting in front of your computer and start to feel stir crazy.

What hidden treasures have you found on the hill?

  • Responsibilities of a group founder?

How much does the group founder need to be involved if it's an open group and anyone can join?

What's unclear to me is if I have to be very involved with a group once I start it. Can I start a group, say, for a neighborhood, and then move away from that 'hood and let the group live on with less of my involvement?

  • Any experience with teleseminars?

I am looking for the best service providers for setting this up.

    What services have you used?

What did you like or not like about them?

    What were fees?

Any tips, tricks, etc. about the call and how to manage it?

Anything about teleseminars you wish you'd known before you first did one?

    Thanks!

  • 2 bizniks nominated for Man and Woman of the Year

King 5's Evening Magazine hosts an annual Best of Western Washington Contest. I just nominated Dan and Lara for Man and Woman of the Year and hope you'll vote for them before voting ends on October 13th.

Biznik founders, Dan and Lara have done so much for all of us to make this community possible. We will never will know the hours and thought they lovingly and sometimes painstakingly put into this community so it's here for us whenever we want to tap into it. They truly have re-defined business networking.

They deserve it. If you have been impacted by biznik and all the great things it brings to your life, click to vote Dan and Lara Man and Woman of the Year. Scroll to the bottom of the categories for Man and Woman of the Year.

Please take a minute and vote and/or review them on the site. If we all vote they really do stand a chance of getting this much-deserved acknowledgment and more attention for biznik to boot!

This might not post on the King 5 site until Thursday.

  • Formatting Help Window

I just discovered that on Firefox on my Mac I need to use the hyphen, not the asterisk to make bullets. Maybe that could be reflected in the formatting guide (you could say which keys are used with which browsers or just give suggestions of what to do if one doesn't work). Bold works with double asterisks but bulleting didn't with single asterisks.

Also, the way the formatting help window says to post links does not work for me. I've tried it many times and I always resort to typing in HTML code which is tiresome if you have a lot of links.

Would be great to have shorthand way to do that. I know your list is long. Thanks for looking at this.

  • Rally cry for all bizniks!

Austin is the perfect place for biznik to really catch fire...but we need your help!

Do you know anyone in Austin, Texas?

I am flying down next week and will host the first-ever live Austin event on Tuesday, November 20th.

I am counting on you to spread the word. Now is the time to call all of your Austin buddies, former colleagues, cool indie folks you know down south and tell them to post a profile on biznik.

Tell them what you love about biznik and how it's helped you, and then tell them how becoming a member would benefit them specifically. Next, invite them to come to the first-ever live Austin biznik event.

I've personally contacted all the Austin bizniks, people I know in Austin as well as some of the contacts some of you have provided. Now, I want to cast a wider net and ask you all to call and email your Austin indies and get them excited about biznik.

The event will be held in the very cool and hip courtyard of Hotel San Jose. View the description by selecting Austin as your city and then click on Events.

To encourage people to take action on this, I've posted a promotion on my profile related to your help in this matter.

Contact your friends and then drop me an email so I can keep an eye out for them at the event.

Thanks for your help. I hope you'll also consider hosting an event if you go home for the holidays in December. Talk to me if you want some pointers on how to do it.

Okay, now think about who you know in Austin and let's rally together to create a biznik spark in the Lone Star State.

  • 1st biznik event in Austin

I'm hosting a biznik event in Austin, TX on November 20 and am counting on current bizniks to spread the word. Now is the time to call all of your Austin buddies, former colleagues, cool people you know down south and tell them to post a profile on biznik.

First, tell them what you love about biznik and how it's helped you, and then tell them how becoming a member would benefit them specifically. Let them know that they can get in on the ground floor of biznik by attending the first ever Austin event on November 20th. I'll be posting it this weekend.

If you have ideas on how to build biznik in Austin or if you want to put me in touch with a particular mover and shaker or well connected social butterfly in Austin, please do so.

Austin's the perfect town for biznik. Some call it "the Seattle of the South." Join me in bringing biznik to Austin! Contact your friends and then drop me an email so I can keep an eye out for them.

  • I dare you

Just like salad greens, bedding, and marketing, we need to keep biznik fresh and change our pictures often.

Let's retire the stale pics and change the faces of biznik this week. I want to see how many people post a new picture by Friday.

And if you don't have a pic up yet, it's time my friend, it's time. To be honest, you are kind of invisible until you post a picture, so let's see you!

And if you've got a photo up, let us see another side of you. Post here with your new photo.

    I dare you.

No one likes soggy greens or stale bread. Time to freshen up this joint.

  • Seeking Excellent Blog Customization/Integration Person

I have been looking for quite a while for that perfect person who really understands how to customize a blog in very creative ways--specifically with WordPress. I am seeking someone who has experience with this, not someone wanting to try it for the first time.

So far I have found some very talented designers on biznik but no one yet who seems fluent in the language of blog customization or web/blog integration. Someone who feels confident finding open source code for customization would be best. I want to work with someone who already understands why this is important.

If you know of someone or if you yourself do excellent blog customization work please post your site and some samples here. I have a need myself for this as do many of my clients.

Please do not send emails to me directly, but instead post here and I will check back to this thread to see what turns up.

Thanks so much. When I find the right person I have business to send their way.

If you do not do this type of work yet and you are looking for a way to grow your web business, I recommend branching out in this direction as there is a growing need.
