Great topic Taylor.
I am all in for automation! I actually have that time open on that day.
Thanks to all of you! Yahoo. It was a great group. I know all about all of your businesses now. Wonderful sharing, good lunch, excellent company.
Much appreciation to all of you. Kaya
Cheryl
Thanks for letting us know. We will miss you! We'll do this one again so stay in touch. Kaya
Darn. I wanted to come but I have two presentations I am scheduled to give that day. Next time :)
Lisa- Thanks for your support and, yes- looking at your comfort level is a good barometer.
Erica and Josh- good to hear from you both and thanks for your positive comments.
I guess- whatever we do it's always about "relationships."
Welcome to Anne, Melissa and Tshombe.
We have an awesome group and I look forward to seeing all your beautiful faces tomorrow at noon.
If you have any questions feel free to contact me.
Thanks for explaining this Tshombe. I just learned something new!
Dave and I will talk about it and decide if we want to open more spaces and will let you know. I am so happy for all the interest. I guess we need to schedule another one soon!
Melissa Not sure how that works but i"ll find out. I am just about to send out an e-mail to the group and if someone says they can't come I'll let you know asap.
Dotty - I wish you could come too!
Betty and Anne- welcome!
Welcome Cheryl and Lee. Wow- it looks like we are going to have an awesome group. I am very excited.
Welcome Josh So glad you will be coming as it will be great to see you again and hear what you have to share.
Sunil- Welcome on board. I look forward to meeting you- I love Biznik and how it allows us to meet each other!
DeBorah. Very cool. I was hoping you would come.
Judie and Joshua it will be great to see you both again too.
Lori- Thanks for your affirming words - from a sales expert! It is lovely when people just move forward with you and that can only happen when you have developed that relationship first.
Judi- I always enjoy your comments as well, and I like your point about "knowing in our heart" when it's time. I encourage my clients to become more aware of how they feel, their own discomfort and I think when people check inside from that place "know."
J.G. I am glad you liked the article.
Amanda Welcome and I look forward to getting to know you.
Wow- we just posted this and the two of you amazing people have already registered. I'm excited. Thanks for joining us. Kaya
Gazelle- thanks for your comments. I've had the same experience!
Sue- Nice to hear from you again and Yes. Not jumping ahead is such an easy concept but sometimes hard to remember.
Carolina- I always enjoy hearing from you. I've also had those phone calls.
It's great to hear from all of you and we all know how it feels from a customer point of view- we just need to remember it when we are with our own potential clients.
Good article Judy The other thing we can do online is to have testimonials - videos are the best. The door-to-door salesman couldn't offer that. If Mrs. Jones next door, who is the president of the PTA, showed up and said she bought the books and her kids are now doing better in school - it might have tipped the scale for your mom.
By the way- We had a whole set of World Books that my parents did buy and I loved them. I still remember the glossy foldout pictures of the human body and the planets. Great books!
I have a 21 year old roommate and although she is texting constantly she also is a wonderful at conversation. We have had some amazing talks and she talks to her friends constantly too so I don't think there is an issue here.
Texting does have a purpose and it keep people in immediate contact. Its similar to social networking - like the conversation we are having right now here. I wouldn't have the energy to actually talk to you all right now but here we are sharing. Very cool.
Taylor I enjoyed your article, especially since communication is my focus. I think it's important for small business owners to allow for multiple ways that people can communicate with them. I often ask my new clients how they prefer to be contacted. Some people don't like e-mail, but ironically they do like Facebook messages, which they only know about when they get an e-mail alert from facebook. So e-mail from Facebook is ok but from a person is not ok.
I have a little bit of trouble with the whole social stereotyping around generations and how they are.I guess there is some truth to it, but not always. I spoke to a 67 year old woman recently who said there was no easy way to get hold of her as she never answers her phone and didn't like e-mail. She is trying to run a business! It made me wonder how important it is for her to be successful.
Likewise I talked to a 25 year old who also never answers her phone and only responds to texting. She also doesn't like e-mail. Similar situation for her. People of any age can get stuck in their preferred ways and really it's much more important for you to do what your client prefers. It's more important to ask yourself, "What do I need to do in order to run my business successfully?"
I happen to love e-mail as opposed to the phone because it takes less time and it's all stored on my computer. I also prefer it to sending out a letter snail mail. I am trying to eliminate paper in my office. I'm on the phone all day. I've got some cool headsets so I can type, organize my office or wash dishes while I'm on the phone. I guess there is that stereotype about women being multi-taskers regardless of our age:)
Good article Taylor Many of my clients have refused to do social networking because they don't understand the one basic concept that you alluded to; the development of community.
If all my business was about was selling to people and getting more clients it would be very empty. I love the community that I have developed online- people I never would have been able to know and relate to. I have new friends in Chicago, Florida and many other states. I support them and likewise, they are interested in what I am up to. I love it!
This is a good example right now. I am able to support you Taylor without going anywhere, getting dressed up or anything. In fact I'm sitting in my jammies getting ready to soak in the tub and I am having this lovely conversation with you.
Katy
You are welcome and thanks for taking the time to comment. Let me know if you are ever in Portland and maybe we can meet up. And that goes for all of you wherever you are!
Gwendolyn
I have had the similar challenge as you - not taking advantage of everything. At some point you have to put to use everything you have learned :)
Thanks for sharing.
Flora Thanks for your chiming in. I'll have to check out Patrick Snow for sure now that two of you have mentioned him.
I like your question, "Is this the best use of my time?" Too many people ask , "Can I afford this?" In fact a good seminar will be one you can't afford to miss and will pay for itself.
So your time will be well used if it is in that category.
Thanks for all the great comments everyone.
George- somehow it never even occurred to me to go to a seminar just to to to sell to people. For me it would feel intrusive to do that- however I can understand attending to get to know people who may want to meet with you later to see how you could help eachother. Maybe this is what you meant.
Karen- thanks for mentioning the title. I did that in an attempt to try to something different so I'm glad it worked at least for you.
Phil- yes Bob Marley has been mentioned to me a few times :) My seminars are all small business owners and I try to allow for opportunities for people to really learn about each other and how they can work together. I've been told that this is one of the benefits- meeting new people and working as a team. In fact I market it as one of the benefits of my marketing seminar.
