  • Tara -

How very interesting indeed! And I believe it helps put some language around a phenomenon that I've seen related to coaching. So many people are drawn to coaching these days for reasons I believe are related to 'innerpreneurship'.

Many discover coaching as clients, often in pursuit of finding more fulfillment through their work and regularly leading toward some kind of 'innerpreneurship' of their own.

On the other side of it, clearly there is a huge draw for many to become coaches themselves and I've noticed that it almost always is about this notion of doing something that fosters personal grow for themselves while at the same time acting in service to others to help change the world.

I always find it interesting to learn that something I've noticed actually has a name attached to it - thank you for sharing!

  • Hey, Lynn -

I totally agree on all counts. Reporters don't like phony any better than anyone else and speaking from a place of authenticity - once you find it and are able to articulate it well - is so much more powerful and so much easier too!

Having worked together in the past, I know you're top-notch and that your clients are getting great value when they listen to what you have to say.

Thank you so much for sharing what works!

  • Rachel -

Thanks so much for the updates to your article and also for the useful detail about a few of the key new credentials described in the law that I simply couldn't fit into mine.

The truth is that this is a confusing subject. There are times when I have questioned my own assessment of it and have had to listen and re-listen to various testimony to be sure I'm getting it straight.

As the DOH moves into the implementation phase, it will be important for anyone potentially affected to be involved (ideally through a professional association as that would carry a lot more weight) to ensure the new rules match in practice what they were intended to accomplish in theory.

Regardless - I am most interested in as many of us being as well educated on the subject as possible. These articles along with the various questions, comments, and any debates that might arise too all work toward that end.

  • Thanks, all for your comments! As you delve into the details of the legislation, I encourage you to spend some time thinking about the implications of the use of the GAF scale.

For me, it clarifies who I intend to work with and gives me a way of telling whether a potential client should perhaps be referred instead.

I also believe it substantiates my assertions that coaching does not fit into this definition of counseling. Otherwise, doing just about any kind of work with a >60 individual would require certification - like say, learning to tie shoes.
