  • I use Washington Mutual. They have free business, free personal checking and free bill pay. It's great because when I go online I can access both my personal and business accounts from the same screen and easily transfer funds between the two. My bookkeeper highly recommended WaMu.

  • Amy ~ I think that solving this riddle is unique to every business and individual. My business is structured different than your business. One suggestion that I have it to out source (if you can) those business tasks that you do not like and those that rob you of your creativity. For example, I out sourced my bookkeeping and office cleaning because I dreaded those tasks and did not do them well. As I consequence, I got more clients because I was fully open to receiving more clients. Making sure that I set some time for self-promotion (and doing my best I can to enjoy it!) has also helped.

  • I hope this isn't too esoteric or "out there", but it is in line with my profession. I'm an energetic healer who (I believe) is exploring the cutting edge of energetic healing and everything that it entails. Right now I'm exploring and attempting to manage some of the great paradoxes of life on this plane. What keeps me up at night? -- questions regarding (for me) these prominent paradoxes: self/others, security/freedom, public image/authenticity, privacy/intimacy, linear/non-linear, ego needs, wants and desires/soul needs, wants and desires and last, but definitely not least, surrender/control.

  • Welcome to Biznik Ren. I would love to have lunch and meet other health professionals. When I first joined I was talking to another acupuncturist who had been with Biznik quite some time. We were commenting on how health care professionals have a tendency to neglect the business aspect of what they do. Biznik has been a enjoyable way to keep my focus not just on my client's needs but also on the needs of my business.

  • Welcome to Biznik Suzanne. Here's a nudge: pick an upcoming event that interests you and go to it. Events are a fun way to network and to meet other independent business owners. Hope to see you around.

  • I don't think it sounds corny at all. Sterling, it sounds like you've got a good thing going in terms of what you do. Why not be creative in getting established clients to put in writing what they really feel about the work that you do so that other people can take advantage of the services that you have to offer. I agree what Brian has to say -- if I'm going to trust someone to watch over my pet I'd want to make sure they came highly recommended. Personally, if I like the services someone has to offer I like to help spread the word in the form of a written testimonial.

  • In terms of sharing personal information or beliefs with my clients? I am in the healing arts. So for me it comes down to a few basic questions: 1. Is it appropriate (whatever that means -- depends on the client, the business, etc) 2. Does it help to effectively build rapport. 3. Is it in the client's best interest for me to do so. And of course, there are degrees of personal information. For example, when a client asks about the occasional scratch on my hand or arm I usually start talking about my two (lovely) pet iguanas -- it satisfies their curiosity and ironically enough with most clients helps build rapport (go figure).
