Anyone want to join a last-minute Tully's work party tmrw (for your biz projects)?

I decided to create an event (for tomorrow (Fri), 10/14, from 12-3pm) where we could all work on our projects, in a social, energizing environment.

I just created it, so it hasn't been listed yet on the Events page. It's on my profile page, though here: http://biznik.com/members/laila-atallah/events/tullys-work-party

Please email me through Biznik, if you'd like to attend.

I'm looking forward to meeting you!

Referral thank you: gift certificate or cash?

    Hey folks!

For high-end career counseling services, do you imagine my clients and colleagues who refer business to me would prefer a gift certificate (to Amazon, for example), or simply a check?

I'm concerned that a check will feel guache, or weird, or uncomfortable. On the other hand, I'm wondering if that's what most people would (secretly?) want?

Ideally, I'd love for people to feel delighted, and not in any way uncomfortable.

It's also occurred to me that I could simply ask them what they would prefer, but that would ruin the surprise.

Any thoughts? Also, how would you feel about receiving either of these two gifts? Do you have other gift certificate ideas, or other referral gifts that you prefer to give or receive?

    Thanks,

    Laila

The Life of a Digital Nomad

    Hi Everyone ~

I hope this is the right place to post this.

I saw this post on the Almost Fearless blog and, between chortles, thought it was just the kind of article that Bizniks would appreciate.

    http://bit.ly/buU3ac

I love it when people expose the underbelly of entrepreneurship. And then laugh about it. =) The conclusion really hit me (in a good sort of way).

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. And, for the digital nomads out there, what have your experiences been like?

    Laila

Free workshop space for last-minute Shine video prep (on Monday, May 4)?!!

Stefani Quane and I want to host a last-minute Shine video prep session this Monday evening (May 4) to help people feel more clear and confident before their video debut.

It should hold a minimum of 20 people, but up to 50 or 75 people would be even better. It’d be great if it was in the Wallingford/Greenlake/Fremont/Ballard/University areas, but Capitol Hill/Downtown would also work.

I've tried all the libraries in my area, and Mosaic Coffee House. No go.

Any one have a space, or ideas for some free venues? Maybe some bars that exchange space for people buying a drink ...?

    Thanks! Laila

Help advertising free job search series

Hey Everybody ~ I'm launching a series of free job search workshops and I'm wondering if you have advertising/promotion ideas? The topics include: resume strategy, creating your professional brand, and interviewing with confidence. This series is geared toward job seekers, 25 - 55 years old. I'd especially like to reach women professionals. The first workshop is on May 12th at the Tullly's in Wallingford.

    In particular, I'm looking for:

    1) Online bulletin boards, lists, etc. for posting. 2) Regular/offline places for posting a flyer. 3) Local groups who might want to announce this to their members, online or otherwise. 4) Any general advice about online posting and attracting participants.

Some of the online ideas I have so far are: Biznik, Seattle Times, Craig's List, SCN.org and Seattle Weekly (online).

Here's the link (the flyer is currently hard to read, but the web designer will be fixing that soon): http://www.careercounselingwithatwist.com/events.html

    Thanks for your advice!

    Seattle Career Counselor says “hey!”

Hi Everyone ~ My name is Laila Atallah and my business is Career Counseling with a Twist.

I’m looking forward to meeting many of you. I plan to attend my first event on May 14 (How to Network this Biznik Way). I’ll hope you’ll come say “hello.”

I work with career changers and job seekers to get clear on what they want their life to look like, and find work that supports that bigger vision. I specialize in working holistically with those who crave an integration of their life and their work, as opposed to finding a “career box” -- or any other box -- to squeeze into.

People come to me for help with: self-discovery, career assessment, researching options, “transition jobs,” resumes, interviews, overcoming obstacles, self-esteem... the works!

I also work with mothers and entrepreneurs on life design and balance, time management, boundary-setting and generally creating an awesome life when you’re pulled in many directions.

I’m zealous about helping people combine passion and practicality. To me, one without the other is like a movie without popcorn.

If you know anyone who is looking for a job, my Tully’s Job Search Series is starting on May 12 in Wallingford. And, it’s free! More info here: http://www.careercounselingwithatwist.com/events.html
