I believe therapy doesn't have to take months or years and it doesn't have to be an emotionally painful experience. I concentrate on giving my clients coping skills and strategies they can use immediately to improve their lives, and work on building on current strengths not just assessing weaknesses. While gathering insight is helpful, insight alone will not help you to manage your depression or build meaningful relationships with others.
