  • Bob, good point about the original post date, and it looks like Mr. Millington hasn't been recently active on that website at all; perhaps I will drop him a line.

In the meantime, I will keep looking. I need to do this for a client, so I have to make something happen.

  • DeBorah, indeed, I have done as you suggest, and have found so many calendar plugins etc, but so far have found none that give me the layout I want.

Keith Millington offers code to make happen pretty much what I want but it looks a little over my head. I might have to tackle it, though.

Oh, and yes, I am on WordPress.org--stand-alone. Good point.

  • In the end, a style guide is about consistency, right?

Sometimes a publication dictates which style guide is used (if any) and thereby brings consistency to the publication even when many are writing for it.

Other times, a writer's favorite style guide helps bring consistency throughout her pieces of writing.

And then there's my own style guide--an amalgamation of rules that I have gathered from here and there which I find logical, sensible, or practical, e.g., whether you serial comma or not, please do it the same throughout the document.

  • Is there some way to promote the "wait list" information to the main event page, where presently a Full Event is labeled Full (or otherwise promote the Wait List concept)?

Here's my thinking: when browsing events I frequently skip over Full Events and don't click through to the actual event page, thus without having encountered this post, I would not know I could be added to a wait list, and miss out on this great feature.

  • Are you looking for just the bags to fill with bits? Or, also for the bits to go in the bags?

  • Andrews,

    Sounds good, but.

I am logged into Biznik, and the link doesn't work. Also, I followed links from four other emails that arrived about the same time, and all those links did work.

I encountered this before. I think the circumstances were similar. A member of my group tried to add an event--not one they were hosting but one from a group to which they belonged--and the link in the email went to a "Sorry, we can't find that page" page.

Shall I forward the current email to you?

  • Here's the snipped email message with the link that was in the message:

<snip> has submitted a new event to your group still waters.

It's called "Stretch and a Smoothie!" and can be found here:

    Stretch and a Smoothie!

    <snip>

  • A member of one of my groups tried to add an event to the group. I received the email re: approval but the link is bad (Sorry, we can't find that page).

From the event title I can find the event, but my group no longer appears among the "Add this event to a group" list so I cannot.

This member added five events. The links for the ones she was hosting were fine. The bad link was for an event hosted by someone else.

p.s. I think it's time for there to be a new badge: Pest Control. And I want one :-)

p.p.s. If Pest Control is too long and only Pest fits, that's fine, too.

  • Taking care of employees is like crossing the street: Stop, Look, Listen.

Make time to pay attention. Observe. Chat. Not to become buddies, but to have something of a relationship.

Give evidence that you have looked and listened. The chair that Christian mentions, or the equivalent. Be frugal, but not chintzy--decent coffee; box lunches sometimes; plenty of the tools and supplies needed for the job; little surprise gifts now and again, especially if they show you've been paying attention (my favorite chocolate, or hand lotion, or some little tool I can use on that remodel project I've got going on).

It costs an enormous amount to replace an employee; spend that to keep one, instead.

And, yep, let me know how I'm doing. Including when I screw up--don't just fix it, show me how you want it done. Even good employees want to improve.

  • I see the merits of "collaboration" over "networking", but "collaboration beats competition" seems an oxymoron, undoing the effect of emphasizing collaboration.

I know this is tagline thing has been on the minds of Biznik for awhile; I'm glad it's not my challenge :-)

  • Tim,

screencast looks pretty darn perfect for my needs. It even looks like it can do some of the audio hosting that I've been seeking.

I am going to check it out in more depth; if all goes well, you'll see me there soon :)

  • Rachel and all,

    What a jam-packed three hours!

Thank you Rachel, for essentially donating your time to share this wisdom with us. And thank you all for digging deep for real-life stories and revelations about how we experience the world and our lives.

Sharing and comparing true stories is a wonderful and rich way to learn.

I wish I had a way to convey how such a "magical" thing as the enneagram has such practical and valuable use.

  • There are four events appearing on my sidebar (the one that shows who from my network is attending what), but they do not show on the main event pages--and when I follow the links there's a red message that those events have been deleted.

  • It was the list thing I couldn't remember. Does flat-out HTML work always? I know it does for links, but lists, too? Oh. I suppose I could always just experiment!

(There used to be a "format options" cheat sheet presented below the comment-making box; that's gone now. I presume it was yanked to thwart folks who were over-embedding links ... ;-)

  • Interesting point John about ratings/vouching and having done no (actual) business with Bizniks.

I am in shoes akin to yours. I've never been paid by a Biznik for any services. And I have done business with only a few Bizniks (a few of whom became Bizniks after we did business, so would that count?).

But there are dozens of Bizniks for whom I would vouch (you, included), if the system were multi-dimensional with aspects such as:

High integrity, knowledgeable, generous, kind, bright, clever, professional, reliable, and so on. Character assessments that can be made by virtue of building relationships, aspects that are important to me in doing business with others.

I guess we'll see how this roll's out, eh.
