By way of context, there are three artists' co-ops embarking on occupying this great space, and the membership includes painters, sculptors, musicians, and the theatrically inclined.

Each co-op consists of 10 or more artists occupying one of the buildings in the former Rainier Brewery (not to be confused with Rainier Cold Storage). If you are a transplant to Seattle, it's the building site there west of I-5 with the big "T" on top of one of the buildings.

There are plans for two more buildings which will house artists.

What I'm trying to convey is, this is going to be a very interesting and lively community of artists, all within a hop-skip-and-jump of each other. Sweet.

Lara, there is an RCW which addresses corporate records, although it only barely broaches the topic of electronic records ...

The RCW is 23B.16.010. You can read it here http://search.mrsc.org/nxt/gateway.dll?f=templates&fn=legpage.htm$vid=rcwwac:leg The page can take awhile to load.

Biznik, Mike Jacobs, includes Estate Planning among his areas of practice. Simple to complex, and including Medicaid (spend-down) planning for anyone looking ahead to those issues.

He also handles the other side of estate plans--probate and disputes between heirs.

Search for "Mike" and his profile will pop up. Or, email to MikeJ@RiachGese.com

Sara, you don't specify the hitch related to your husband's origin, so I can't speak to whether or not Mike can tackle your situation. You could just give him a ring and find out.

    Cheers.

Seemed interesting, but there's a bit of "clutter" in between "Free White Paper" and actually being able to download it, so I changed my mind.

Wondering what is your rational behind asking visitors to "register" to get the download. Are you harvesting email addresses, in which case, maybe you just want to suggest we sign up for your mailing list instead ...

Okay, looks like there was some curiousity about the post, but no particular interest in a Biznik Happy Hour in Tacoma. Rats. I had the perfect spot in mind (Tempest Lounge on MLK).

We'll test the waters again in awhile and see if more interest develops in time.

With that explanation, I might argue that both are of use, because they are very different things.

Or, does it all become something more over-arching, like "meet-up" or "connect"?

In the end, it's all about connecting people who might be might benefit from a connection, eh?

Well, I resisted, but I finally got it through my thick head that Biznik is NOT the ultimate dating service, which was a bit of a disappointment because there are so many brilliant, lovely people involved.

So now, one of the ways I use Biznik is as a touchstone: Biz Talk and the Blog are places I visit now and again through the week to read the words of real people who are doing things with soul.

Sometimes I learn something, sometimes I say something, but always Biznik gives me that "breath of fresh air" kind of re-charge.

Elke, Though I am not sure really what the lesson IS about, but I am certain it is not about your automobile, and am saying so b/c if you believe your lesson here is about locking the car, you'll miss the true lesson, and have more trouble with the starting over.

Oh. I was just this morning thinking of asking almost the same question.

I want DATA! so I'm interested in "reviews" of all-you-can-eat data plans, plus talk.

And, is anyone already with Helio http://www.helio.com/page?p=homepage and what do you think?

    Lara (and all),

Your post underscores all the lectures about Biznik members completing our profiles. The more specifics there are about the kinds of things that people do, and need/want, the more targeted and worthwhile I can make my referrals. Your photography example is a good one. While I have known for years now several of the Biznik photographers, I am still learning who is inclined to what type of photography. Having Biznik profiles with descriptions of a member's niche is educational, and makes it clear that I should send the new mom's to you, and those seeking "professional" headshots ought probably get referred to Michelle Bates, and so on.

In the same vein, knowing the specifics of what Bizniks are (or are not) seeking is helpful. Want referrals? Tell me. Up to your eyeballs in work already? Let me know ... and so on.

    Cheers.

    Elke,

Thank you for saying these things.

Myself, I have been known to be suspicious of "white" people playing at "native" practices. I have had so many encounters with folks who were just ineffectually tinkering around with practices from cultures not their own, and now I am super wary. Often, it just does not ring true and honest.

You identify yourself as a Shaman, and from a distance, you look like a white girl--the exact profile I've learned to suspect. When I first heard of one of your previous classes (about The Four Agreements) I dismissed the possibility of attending, in spite of the intelligence and heart that I've encountered in your posts on Biznik.

However, at the hearty recommendation of a trusted friend, I set aside my biases and came to your class. It was absolutely the right choice.

I want to encourage any and every one who is at all drawn to Elke--her words, her beliefs--to partake of these opportunities to meet her face to face and take in what she has to say. If you are like I am and are wary of those who call themselves "shamans" and so forth, do set your doubts aside.

Sure, there are charlatans who tout their wisdom and magic. But please, take it from me, highly suspicious me, Elke has a power that you deserve to encounter.

    Love&Light, --Leila

Oh Chris, thank you for providing me with a forum for raving about your presentation. Because it's well worth a rave.

Obviously, you and Dominic Know Marketing. Your expertise is valuable. You presented us with the Top Ten Marketing Mistakes, using an array of examples sprinkled with in-the-moment problem solving.

By identifying Marketing Mistakes you gave us a path for thinking about our own approaches to "marketing" our businesses. You made it clear that there is a lot in the marketing realm that might better be left to the pros. However, you also gave us a lot of information and impetus to individually hone in on our "niche"--which is not the same as limiting our vision of our business; indeed, you were generous with permission for us to expand upon what we want in a client, thereby refining our market. For what worth does a great marketing plan have, if we don't really target our market?

The two of you have a delightful rapport, and your respect for each other shines through, adding to the merit of your information and my enjoyment of the evening.

Do keep the "ding". You invited us to pronounce, "ding" when your delivery was too speedy. We took the liberty of ding-ing you also at times when we didn't understand something you said. (Okay, so I also ding-ed you when you "threatened" to sing to us ;-) But seriously, this was just one way that you welcomed our participation, and this sent the message that even though you and Dominic are the "experts", our skills and views have value.

(Don't get a bell. Everone in the room was able to "reach" the "ding".)

I had a few glitches in my initial set-up of our account with BPT, and a very helpful person called to work out any and all of the unintended kinks. I imagine you could speak with him and describe your needs and he'd know if BPT could help. Email me directly and I can give you his contact info.

Oh Scot, thank you for the attention to the visual. Perhaps when you've got the new presentation you'll post it to your website and Bizniks can peek?

The delivery of your information is a two-part challenge. One is the mechanics of it, the software, the machine--I think this is what you are asking about, and this I cannot address but Dan and others have chimed in nicely.

The second part of the challenge is the actual visual package of your information. And because I have your attention and because I have a peeve in this realm, I am going to stand on my soap box and slam you with one of my agendas (remember, I'm a visual artist and sensitive to what I see).

I recommend (to everyone who wields a slide-clicker) a perusal of the work of Edward Tufte. http://www.edwardtufte.com/tufte/index

He is critical of PowerPoint, and his critiques can inform the improvement of whatever presentations we give. http://www.edwardtufte.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=0001yB&topic_id=1

More importantly, he provides great guidance in how to examine information and convert it into a visual display, as well as how to judge the content of others' visual presentations.

arGH. I never got back to chat with you on this.

The missing testimonial--turns out that was someone mis-understanding what a referral is--human glitch.

About inviting new members. If those metrics matter to you, then something in the system needs tweaking so more accurate stats emerge. I'm not whining, just that I know 4 of my invited peeps became members and your stats show only 1. I'd guess that you do have some interest (if not now, at some point) in tracking the source of new members. Maybe you've got something up your sleeve to help members keep track of invitations? I've lost track of who else I have invited; I don't want to pummel folks with invitations, but I can't remember now if certain folks just haven't stepped up and joined, or if I have neglected to alert them to this swell Biznik society.

    Dan,

Again, this new feature is super great. Among other things, I can use it to find out who was at a meeting that I MISSED, contact someone who was there, and get the scoop on what transpired. All y'all rock.
